Ok this is more than about the 2023 Christmas Spirit Store, it is general feedback on the issue of back-peddling and re-releasing gated content, especially holiday items.

I understand this is a business, and sometimes you have to make decisions to try and boost profitability, however re-releasing OG items or items that were originally intended to only be obtainable for a limited period of time is really a kick in the teeth for players who have supported the game on and off since it was released.

Part of the attraction of an MMORPG is being able to create and level a character that you feel represents you, and your own distinctive playstyle. Being able to customise that character in your own unique ways. This was always an attraction of Runescape, you could play the game however you liked, and stood out in your own way, be it a level 3 skill pure, an Ironman, a completionist, or more.

For some, that also meant being able to collect certain items/cosmetics that showed you had played a long time or had completed certain events in the past. Holiday events and rewards were originally time gated, and that is part of what made them special. This not only brought players together (When you see someone with a certain item, you knew they attended the same event, and can share in that nostalgia), it also made the account distinctive and in some ways imparted a sense of ownership.

Sure there are items that I wouldn't mind having, I would love a scythe and bunny ears, a rubber chicken, a yo-yo and more. However I've known and have played with the knowledge for years, that those items I missed and will never have. There are other cool items I missed during my time off from the game such as the cracker wings, however this doesn't change the fact I do not support the idea of re-releasing these items

It is beyond me, why you continue to release new versions of the OG tradeable rares - Black, Green AND Purple Santa hats.. Purple and Orange Halloween Masks... Golden and Black Partyhats..

Sure I admit some of these items do look pretty darn awesome, most notably the black Santa and Partyhat. (Giving credit where credit is due), but am I the only one who feels we are going overboard? What happened to the stated position you had that you wouldn't be releasing anymore tradeable discontinued holiday items?

Which brings me on to the untradeable holiday items....the 2023 Christmas Spirit Shop allows people to easily purchase items from as far back as 2012.....what's worse, this opening shot has now encouraged new players to ask for MORE previous holiday items. Whilst I can understand it may be hard to take back what has already been given, but can we at least reach some middle ground here? Can we please stop going down this path where you are constantly re-releasing OG items that should quite rightly be time gated to players who actually played and worked for the content when it was available? I mean you take out Duel Arena and then release an identical duelist cap....as if it wasn't bad enough you completely scrapped content that had been around for a DECADE, content those players enjoyed and played the game for. Yet you couldn't even let them have an item that recognised their achievements during that time? (No, adding "antique" in front of the item name just doesn't cut it)

Please reconsider this path you are on (I realise we are far down it already) But it is better late than never to at least consider how some of us OG players feel when you keep whittling away at the remnants of what keeps us in RS3. (and no OSRS isn't the answer, many of us stuck with RS3 for so many years despite the issues, we shouldn't be punished for trusting you to stay true to the spirit of RS)

And for the record, it isn't too late, you can always choose to altogether stop re-releasing holiday items that have been re-released in the past (both tradeable and non-tradeables)

Just like how you left ED3 and the insane XP rates open for 4 years and then decided to shut that down.

Respectfully there are portions of this discussion I agree with. However I think re-releasing some of the old items is a good move if there is a slight difference from the older ones. I don't want to see new players carrying around yo-yos, rubber chickens, and others when those items are special to me and the players of the time, however having a slightly different colored one, or just a way to tell the difference between the two may be the route to go.

In the terms of the party hats and Santa hats I think they are fine being added to the game as long as the rarity is kept at a high level. Every player having every item is not the right road to go down and I think they do quite a good job straying away from that.
