I don't want this to sound like a rant. However, with Fort Forinthry there seems to just be a lack of effort in the quest.

There is no denying that the players of this game love to AFK, who doesn't? But, the "Construction Hotspot" mechanic in the New Foundations quest is just ridiculous. It takes such a long time, of 1 click gameplay with no interaction, for what reason?
The content did not require this kind of time sink to be built in, and on top of that, there are mechanics in the game (such as the statues monthly) which could have been faster, more engaging and served a purpose. Instead what we got feels like a waste of our time and lazy from the developer.

I don't mean to be critical. I'm just getting the feeling with recent content, no one in the Jagex drawing room is raising the question of "would the players actually enjoy that mechanic?". The general direction of the game just seems to be getting lazier and lazier.

This is a maybe separate issue - but if this lack of engaging content is due to the so called "spaghetti code". You cannot create or add new mechanics into situations as the code is too messed up.
I personally, would happily see all updates get benched, even the new skill. Have you spend a year or two fixing the code start to finish and then have a functioning game with survivability of engaging content. Rather than these filler mechanics that are quite frankly, extremely boring to play.

That's really typical of what they have been making for a while now. AFK but you get extra for paying attention, in this case building on the golden hotspots for more XP.

Personally I enjoyed the update, it was a combination of processing the materials then going to the AFK/ 'rockertunity' style of building. It's a matter of what we are actually doing, and to me it was interesting.

I would have made the extra step of gathering unique materials and also building every feature like the bank, sawmill, furnace, everything. And then using those to make more advanced buildings and features.

It definitely seems like they are doing the most basic things in terms of development. I'm sure part of that is the obvious fact that many of the most well known mods have departed in recent times.

An example is wilderness flash events. Most of that is the system to run it, make sure everyone has participation and gets their reward. But half the events are day 1 entry level spawning of existing monsters. The descriptions promised more, and led to a lot of confusion.

The Zamorak ED4 map has the potential to be amazing, but they look at all of that and again just put up a ton of NPC spawns and lazer gates. I couldn't even believe it. I'm going to need 5 years worth of combat updates before I can enjoy it in any way.
