In the far north wastes the wind was screeching, to top it off there was a winter storm that came out of nowhere. I had to keep moving or I could die out here. "One foot in front of the other." I said to myself. I had been walking for close to a week now to deliver a message requesting king Tuffty's help in the south where the armies of Drestmyre have been causing havoc every where they go. First it was Astinia that fell, then it was Thranmir, both burned to the ground and it's citizens taken captive or executed after our army had been nearly wiped out. I had to deliver this message.

As I trudged on through this wilderness where sky blended in with the snow covered ground I heard a warm sounding voice call out to me "Hello there!" and this rather large figure, almost indiscernible from the foggy blizzard approached and asked "Are you from around here?" to which I replied "No, I'm not." this person paused for a second and said "Okay follow me, there's a tavern ahead where you can lodge for the night and warm up!" I nodded once and followed him. I tried to ask a few questions but never really got any answers. I just assumed he couldn't hear me so instead of talking we walked in silence until we approached this wood and stone structure with smoke emanating from the chimney.

"Here we are." The man said in a rather firm manner, eyeing me from the side. I pushed on this old spruce door and pressed the latch and the door was blown open by the wind and the fire in the place flickered as though it were going to go out so I quickly rushed in and the man followed pushing the door shut and immediately I was greeted by the sounds of fire crackling from the wood burning in the fireplace, the smell of smoke, and various spices as well as pies that were being cooked or eaten. The room had a few tables, with candles on them giving light to the otherwise dark and mysterious corners where some cloaked fellows sat, flames reflecting in their eyes.

As for me, the chairs were quite a welcome sight. With everyone staring and not talking I moved to a table close to the fireplace and pulled out a chair to sit down, when I did, the missing sound of conversation was replaced by the hushed voices of the visitors. That man which I had followed here sat directly across from me. I tried to ask what his name was but was interrupted by someone of little stature who had a glass mug in his hand, I could only assume this was the Innkeeper. Looking at me while cleaning a glass mug the Innkeeper said "My name is Tennebrie and this is my tavern, where's about are you from?" to which I replied "I'm from Asteria." "Asteria? With the war going on what are you doing up here?" "Well for now I'm taking a break, been walking for a week now." "Well alright, alright, I won't pry, but tell me, how are things in Asteria? I haven't heard anything since Thranmir fell." to which I replied "Well you know as much as I do then." "Okay, I'll let you back to it" and he placed the mug on the wooden table in front of me and poured water, then brought a bowl of pottage and I paid him.

"So what's your name" I asked the man which I had followed. "I'm Sverdin." He said, "You know, you shouldn't have been out in this weather, especially with what's been going on here." to which I replied "Why's that then?" and suddenly someone there was a loud bang and someone said with a raised voice "Please, stop, we don't have any more gold!" and a growling voice replied "Well that's too bad, you know what happens when people don't pay...." "I--I'll try my best to get it to you, just please give me time!" "You're out of time."
