RuneScape.

The game we all play. The game we all enjoy, and love, to a certain extent. The game that draws us in, day in and day out. The game.

uneScape is more than just a game, though. It's a way of life. Some people may disagree with my choice of words, but they are all too true. Most of us eat, breathe, and sleep RuneScape. It's the first thing we think of in the morning after a good nights rest and the last thing we think of before taking said rest the next day. But why?

U
nder normal circumstances, people like us would be viewed as "nerds" or "loners", but in reality, RuneScape has made us a lot more than that. The thriving social player base, positive and negative, reflect the world outside as well as any. Granted, we are stuck behind a computer screen and that is fairly restrictive, but is that a bad thing?

N
ormally I might say yes. In this case, I say no. Behind this computer screen we are learning very necessary life skills. Now, this is something that a lot of people will disagree with me on, but think about it. We learn basic economics by buying and selling things. Merchants take this to another level by watching economic inclines and declines to make profit. We learn social skills by talking to the enormous amounts of people from different parts of the world every day.

ven learning how to set and achieve goals makes it's presence in RuneScape. Every day we shoot for a new level or new requirement for something. We all aim to finish the game in our own ways and through many trials and tribulations, much like real life, we actually end up achieving these things. Prioritization and organization are also learned. Maybe to a much lesser extent, but most people who play often learn something about these, whether it be organizing a bank tab in your bank or setting a limit on how much money you can spend on a skill.

S
everal more things can be added to this list, but I choose not to drag it on. I believe I made my point. But I do think I failed to answer the first question of "why?". Why RuneScape? Why do we choose to play this game as much as we do. Well, here is my answer.

C
all me crazy, but I don't believe it is addiction. I believe the reason we come back to RuneScape each day is because it's an escape. An escape from the world outside that we compare to RuneScape and find that RuneScape is a much better place to be. Whether it be because of personal life issues, or issues the entire world is facing, we'd much rather take our chances on RuneScape.

A
nd there is nothing wrong with that. Sure, we may be looked upon differently for the things we choose, but we're no different from anyone else. We chose our passion in life and we pursue it. RuneScape is a lifestyle as much as being a "stoner" or a "thug" is and frankly, I think RuneScape is a better choice that most. Of course, I am biased because I am a 'scaper, but from an unbiased outside perspective, I think they would agree.

P
erhaps I make it sound a bit better than it is. While I believe RuneScape is a healthy lifestyle to live, there are those that take it too far. The ones that play the game for 10+ hours a day, taking little to no time to fit in an excercise routine and have a sleep schedule that is almost non-existant. I do not believe this fits the RuneScape lifestyle, as it is not healthy, nor sane. That is just my opinion, though, and if this describes you, please do not take offense to it.

veryone enjoys life their own way and this is how we enjoy ours. People on the outside shouldn't shame us for doing what we love, just as much as we shouldn't them. That especially go for all of the "trolls" that RuneScape harbors. Remember guys, we all play the same game and most of us play it just as much as everyone else. Keep a positive air about yourself and don't be rude to others. No one is better than anyone else, there are just those who have progressed further.

Take some time to reflect on your time in RuneScape. Cherish what you have and the people that surround you, because one day they may all be gone. And, believe it or not, you will miss them.

Thanks for taking the time to read my random ramblings that have no apparent relevance to anything at all.
