Hello fellow players of Runescape.
Have you ever seen a Mutated Bloodveld and wondered how these hideous things came to be?
I certainly have.

I recieved a slayer task from Kuradal to kill Mutated Bloodvelds.
She said: They deserve to die.
Did she say that as if she has a grudge against them? Strange.

While killing them, I looked at the bloodvelds themselves.
I thought to myself, gosh, these things sure don't look much like normal bloodvelds.
Then I looked at the area around them.
It sure looks like an abandoned laboratory. There are bloody experimentation tables and busted cages
everywhere.
The examine texts of pretty much everything in the room were a little disturbing.
Are these really monsters, or are they really victims?

This pondering has inspired me to fabricate what I believe to be the story behind it all.
So here it is, I hope you guys get a kick out of it.

Please don't be too harsh, this is the first story I put on these forums.

The Terrible Caverns

These tunnels were once laboratories where unspeakable experiments would take place. The horrors below would
never be known to anyone living on the surface of Morytania.
Until Now.

Vampyres wanted to make a better blood supply by creating a Bloodveld-Human Hybrid.
They like the taste of human blood the most.
Normally, bloodvelds are kept as pets by the vampyres, in the same way dogs are to humans, but they are also perfect harvesters of blood. With their long piercing tongues and grasping teeth, they suck the blood out of their victims until they are a hollow carcass.
They do this until they are completely gorged, like giant grotesque ticks near the verge of bursting. They then supply some of the excess blood to their masters.
They wanted to cross a bloodveld with a human in hopes that they may become the vampyric equivalent of a cow.

The terrible events that went on beneath the swamp are the stuff of nightmares.
Every despicable experiment ended in failure. While frusterating for the vampyres, it was the humans that suffered.
Using interbreeding programs alongside the use of dark magic, the vampyres would create unspeakable monstrosities.
The humans were strapped down tightly as their bodies underwent painful mutations.
Their bones and flesh would forcefully grow beyond their bodies' capability to contain them.
Their limbs stretched and bent in very unnatural ways as their fingers and toes would expand until they popped and were later ripped off or remained until they rotted away, leaving only the sharp ends of their arms and legs exposed, being used like sharp pegs to walk on.
Their skins stretched until they started to rip, exposing their flesh and outer bones such as their lower spines, shoulders, collarbones, and hips.

Their mouths stretched wide open until it was impossible to close their mouths. Their teeth grew larger and sharper until they resembled white stalagmites that just stuck out, it was impossible for them to gnash together
anymore.
Their eye sockets stretched and expanded until they ripped wide open while their eyes remained the same size.
Now they are just large bloody wholes with small eyes barely able to peer out of them.
Their ears have also stretched beyond nature's intention. They are now also holes that constantly leak blood.
Their tongues did not splice together very well either. Being half human, their tongues cannot pierce through
anything, and they just hang out of their mouths, being dragged across the floor as they walked.

One experiment after another, they all ended up the same way.
It was only until it was discovered that vampyres can survive without the consumption that they finally decided to discontinue further experimentations, leaving the tunnels and their victims behind, never to be seen again.
Today, these creatures still exist. They still breed and thrive in the same caverns they were created in, surving by eating the cave eels in the water nearby, and sometimes resorting to cannibalism.
Their only means of defending themselves is to forcefully, and quite painfully, shoot blood out through the swollen holes that used to be their mouths.

So there you have it. The origin behind the existance of Mutated Bloodvelds.
The next time you kill one of these creatures, don't think of it as slaying an abomination and ridding the world of an unholy creature, think of it as putting a tormented victim out of their misery.
They have suffered long enough.

When Jagex finally decides to graphically remaster the rest of the monsters in the game, they can use this story as reference for when they are working on the Mutated Bloodvelds.
I know they can look alot more grotesque than they do now.
