2005 I started playing. Played quite a bit as a stay at home father/caregiver of a disabled daughter.
Runescape helped me challenge myself.
Be patient.
Be efficient.
"work" = reward.
Stay at it.
Failure is certain but you know success is too, if you keep at it.
Runescape teaches grit.
I always wanted "RS3" though, I quit in late 2008 with 99 slayer and all combat stats.
When I learned in 2014 that you could buy bonds/membership with gp, knowing I had a few hundred mill and plenty of items I'd check out the third version for free (always a paying member, autopay, grandfathered in at $5 no tax a month before quitting).
Since then I have attained far more than I ever dreamed. After blowing 100m @ 5m a bond for a cape of seasons (even with with 3 keys a day for gold member) I was broke with only 20m left. Bored doing divination reading up on the changes.
Auras, combat, the economy, mtx.
Then luck struck!
200m blue gem
Then araxxor(i) came out. I spent almost the whole 200m on gear and dying at rax before being proficient.
Then I went for max cash. Always, always wanted to hit java max.
After about 1k kills and a few good GE marketing strategies (invested in shark when they were so cheap, and cloak of seasons') I hit it.
Then max.
Then 120 slayer.
Then the impossible (for me) comp cape.
Hate quests. had all quests done for summer's end and hated that.
Also hate skilling, I like killing stuff and getting loot and playing the ge like a stock exchange.
Was happy as a clam killing rax all day every day.
and the reason I gave up trying in the first place. the dag gum #$%^ farm.
With the help of some awesome folks in a minigame FC (Trouble brewing was a tough place to visit). I will, if I don't die, or there isn't an update by Friday, be able to buy a comp cape.
Wednesday Tech trees finished.
Friday at reset after I place holy water and a blisterwood sickle at Safalaan's statue I willbe able to purchase a completionist cape cape.
