Not sure how to say this but I've been hacked because of my incompetence...
I made the mistake of clicking on what I thought was a legitimate advertising from Jagex(Old School RuneScape) ad on Facebook. It was extremely legitimate appearing website... ON MOBILE! Little did I know I'd lose everything I've built on my account. Is there anything Jagex is doing with Facebook to delete these ads that are being posted to hack accounts...? I'm positive copyright laws apply in the UK just as they do in the USA and otherwise worldwide. I'd hope there is an attempt to delete these ads off Facebook and save other players from loosing all they have worked for on this game.

Hi there
Skiledturtle

If you report the page directly to Facebook they will take it down.

Yes, you are right about the copyright laws and these fake RS webpages are flouting them in order to defraud players from their accounts, items and gp.

Jagex cannot prevent someone from putting RS content up on other websites.
All they can do is find it and get it taken down.
Players themselves can also report fake RS content directly to Twitch, Youtube and Facebook.

The other really important step is to be vigilant yourself.
Most of these fake pages, streams and videos are offering something for free - double exp, giveaways etc.
Don't get sucked in by the free offers, they aren't real.

Please browse the Security articles in the Support Centre.
There are articles in there to help you re-secure your account and information articles about the scams that are out there on the web.

Ah, I see Malua. Players are expected to be responsible for their accounts to the maximum extent. Yet Jagex does essentially nothing proactively to protect their users. I guess I should just bot to get bonds and not pay membership like these websites and hackers do. I've played this game since 2007 and the security of the platform has gone from mediocre to worse. No surprise.

"Players are expected to be responsible for their accounts to the maximum extent."
Yes, we are and this has always been the case.

"Yet Jagex does essentially nothing proactively to protect their users."
- Recovery Questions and Answers (superseded by JAG)
- Bank PIN
- in game content to reinforce security and player safety
- Jagex Account Guardian (superseded by Authenticator)
- Authenticator
- A Support Centre containing articles on Security
If Jagex was doing nothing, none of the above would have happened.

What Jagex cannot provide is sufficient JMods to watch all Runescape related content being posted on the internet and then intervene to get it taken down before the public see it.
The key here is us. You, me and all the rest of the player base.
Be vigilant.
Don't be greedy and don't channel the dishonest people of this world.
