So I haven’t played RS for a few years now but have been watching videos on it and decided to come back. Well apparently I remember the hard way why I left. I’ve only been on for a few weeks, not really talking to anyone, and today, I got several charges ($130 worth) for Jagex on my bank account that were made with an account supposedly under the name NHOOFS after digging around with a shady gold selling website and they gave me a little info on this identity thief. They made a fake gmail that doesn’t exist using a misspelt version of my legal name.

I have no idea how they got my debit card info because I’m extremely careful with it and haven’t even purchased anything RS related in a long time, so my mind is blown at how someone can steal this info so quickly and easily and I think it could’ve been something as simple as someone seeing my username (which is different from my login, I’ll never tell it) and somehow finding everything out about me.

I don’t know where this person got this information but it just took the last of the money I have in my account and now I’ve got the bank and FBI investigating it because I’m just disgusted at how I come back to a game I used to love and something like this suddenly happens to absolutely devastate my financial situation after it’s already been a rough month with a lot of things going on. I don’t know if it will be cleared because I’ve been robbed before and the bank didn’t do anything about it.

So I don’t know the point of this post. I know no one will probably help me out and Jagex will probably just tell me “tough luck, be careful” but I want to warn everyone of how easy it is to lose everything simply by trying to relive some old memories on OSRS in your free time. This seems to be where all the smartest, most disgusting people on earth gravitate and steal people’s money nowadays because this never happened before but I guess security has gotten so weak that you can lose everything simply by logging in. If only kindness and generosity were as common as greed and hatred…

I am very sorry to read your post.

Do you have other RS accounts?

If you have been inactive for a very long time but your account/money have been secure all that time then, suddenly, you return to the game and problems start, it usually means the cause of the security leak is very recent.

Either that other account you mention is one of your accounts that has had your card linked all along and a hijacker has discovered the account, or your RS accounts are secure but your card details are not.

It is possible to message Billing Support and get this sorted and the money returned.

Firstly, try the tools on the Forgotten login support page to identify any other accounts you might own and see if this other account you mention is one of yours.

Secondly, go to the Settle an Unpaid Balance support page, read it and use the 'Contact Us' button to navigate to a message form to contact Billing Support and get your payments checked.

Lastly, while you wait for a reply from Billing Support (might take a couple of days), take some time to review your account security.
Returning players needs to bring their account security up to the best currently available.
