Logged back into my account after about a year or two. And decided that I'd try to get a 1 month membership to see if I would play again. When trying to check out apparently I have an outstanding balance of $200 waiting to get paid. I haven't played nor have I subscribed to any membership during my absence of the game. I contacted support with no response. Sad that I've come to the realization that I'm going to lose a lot of old child hood memories. Why is Runescape (osrs) the only game I play where accounts are being stolen or exploited so easily? So many other games I've played don't have this issue to this extent.

Sadly you cannot achieve good account security by just having the authenticator and a strong password. Things that really make up good account security is by:
- having a secure registered email
- having all linked accounts (Google, Steam etc) secure
- having a secure device
- having a good understanding of phishing/internet scams and social engineering

Thank you for the reply, but I'm aware of phishing scams and other methods people attempt to use to hijack an account. However I implement the same procedure of security when playing other games. Examples are Guild Wars 2, Warframe, Black Desert, etc. Runescape is the only game that has had reoccurring security breaches on many accounts. This issue dates back years now with no sign of improvement. On top of that, the provided assistance that Jagex offers to victims of exploitation is very poor. By low response times as well as fake resolutions. Why not implement a live chat feature? Just add something else instead of clicking links that lead to no real resolution.

I'm afraid if this has happened on multiple occasions while having taken the appropriate security measures, it means the devices you play RS from has undetectable malware or someone else knows enough about your account to successfully recover it.
The latter is possible with shared and bought accounts or social engineering.

It's true there's room for improvement in Jagex Support, but I will say I've had great experience with support requests as far as outcome and interaction over email go.

Who knows, maybe we'll see livechat in a couple of years. The closest we have to livechat is #account-help in RuneScape Discord where experienced support volunteers walk people through their issue. It's true it's voluntary but they do provide lots of solutions around the clock.
