I am wanting to renew my premier club membership again this year; and not sure how to get it done. I have gone through my PayPal account in years past to do this; but when PayPal started requiring me to have a cell phone I had to cancel my PayPal account because I don't get cell phone reception out here where I live....and I've never owned a cell phone.

My son has played this game as long as I have (many, many, many years) and he still has his PayPal account. Is there a way for my son to pay for my membership with his PayPal account? (It is an easy thing to reimburse him.) I'm not sure if this would even be legal according to Jagex rules....Is it?

Hi there
Jodie

Jagex has always recognised that not every player pays for their own membership.
Typically parents would pay for a childs membership, you are just doing it in reverse. :P

The key thing about that is the person paying is sitting next to the player so the player logs in then uses the payment information supplied to them by the payer.
The player does not give the payer their login information.

I don't know if that will work for you. You don't say whether you son is local to you or somewhere far away.
If he is not able to be next to you then you should explore other methods to pay as Jagex would never condone a player giving their login information to another for any purpose.

Please note: The old Premier Club has been replaced. Bronze and Silver no longer exist and Gold Premier Club has been re-badged as Premier Membership.
The old Gold Premier Club was an membership that needed to be purchased fresh each year.
The new Premier Membership is recurring. When you sign up to Premier Membership, you are signing up to a recurring membership that will be auto re-billed each year.

Malua, your explanation is so clear and thorough, as usual. Thank you.

My son is semi-disabled and does live with me. In fact we have a "game room" set up whereby we can actually talk with each other while playing RuneScape. So letting him pay via his PayPal is not at all problematic.

However, I remember many years ago I used my bank debit card to make a one-time payment for the premier gold membership and it worked very well. So I decided to see if it would work as well this year with the premier membership. It did! I immediately received not only a message in game from Jagex about its having received my $79.99; but also received a message from my bank debit card to confirm I had actually made that $79.99 to an international company, i.e. Great Britain. So all is good!!!

I am a bit concerned about this being an automatic re-occurring yearly billing. I would have preferred it continue being year by year with my staying in complete control as to when it is paid. Still I keep such a small amount of money in that particular bank account that, should something go wrong, I would lose only pennies. However, I would not like to have to clean up any mess this might make in my bank should Jagex make a mistake and over-bill me or some unscrupulous employee of that company try to scam me. (Yes my trust level is quite low!)

As it stands now this "main" account has premier membership through all of next year ending only the first week in December as it has done in past years. (At such time I will be watchful to find out how this automatic re-curring yearly payment is working.)

If you have successfully bought Premier Membership then, yes, you have bought a recurring membership and it will auto-renew in twelve months time.

The only way to stop it from auto-renewing is to cancel the subscription.
Cancelling a subscription does not stop the membership you have paid for, it just stops it from auto-renewing on the due date.
Until then, you continue to receive everything you have paid for.

If you decide just to let it run without cancelling then Jagex will do the auto-renew when the time comes.
If your bank account does not have enough funds to cover the auto-renew, you will get a message in the 'Messages' tab on your account saying they tried unsuccessfully to take a payment.
Jagex will make several further attempts to take payment over the following days but will eventually stop trying. If you add funds to your bank account then one of the follow up attempts will succeed and, as always, you will get a confirmation message about it in the 'Messages' tab.

"should Jagex make a mistake and over-bill me or some unscrupulous employee of that company try to scam me"

I don't believe an individual JMod can access the system to directly take funds from a player. There is a lot of automation in the payment system and the system is quarantined away from individual JMods.
Overbilling? Jagex have a support page to troubleshoot a suspected overbilling: Unknown charge
