Hi, i play rs on gnu/linux since 2004, until med 2011 typo 2022-2023 i got new laptop.
it runs terrible ever since... i know it is not the hardware because: on windows 11 i can max out graphical settings on 28"
anyway, someone know whats up with the critical performance loss on linux.
Every os is affected, every de is affected, every kernel is affected, only think i can blame on is nvidia.
because on win11 the laptop performs on max? clues on how to fix the horrible loss on performance. On fedora, gentoo, arch, debian, manjaro, endevour,, oh and .. the issue persists on different networks. I can't blame the network. Or Linux branch.
No idea on how to resolve the issue, hope some reads this message and can tell me on what to do. :)

btw, i think i seen a post, that nvidia code got open sourced?
red hat posted also that nvidia required "nvidia_drm.modeset=1" kernel parameter,
otherwise the graphical system did not start, due to nvidia requiring drm modeset.
That was introduced idk? 1 year ago or so.
I can not expect having the direct rendering management must enabled, to result in such performance loss, with nxt rs3 client. Nevertheless drm is graphical related right?
Hmm, maybe it's time for me to try a distro hop?
Bleeding edge software and see if there is a fix already?
Any input is welcome.

Noticed today that the kernel parameter:
nvidia_drm.modeset=1 in /etc/default/grub
with the closed source NVIDIA drivers, on Fedora Linux is no longer required.
Resulting in flawless graphical performance back again!

I am pretty sure the critical performance, was caused by the nvidia_drm.modeset=1 being required by the uefi tty framebuffer on Linux.

Solved.
Thread can be closed.
