I've been experiencing lots of apparent network lag the last two weeks or so. Seems to only be getting worse. Monitored my system, and CPU usage is usually between 10-20%. When I'm running in one direction and then start running in the opposite direction, the CPU usage consistently spikes past 50%. Bit weird? But what makes it feel like network lag is the constant micro freezes and rubberbanding. Stacking scarabs is also pretty much impossible now. Instead of just clicking 4 scarabs quickly to stack 3, I now often have to spam click EVERY scarab sometimes MULTIPLE times before it registers (does show the click animation though). This suddenly increases the requirements by a factor of 3-4.. Not Fun..

Your issue may well be a result of the Open GL 3.0/3.1 graphics driver update Jagex announced two weeks ago. On that day, some players (myself included) experienced a range of problems, including severe lag, game freeze, and the client suddenly closing completely.

I run Windows 10, and was unable to find a driver update beyond what I already have.

However, I found that lowering the graphics setting fixed these problems for me. I dropped my graphics down from HIGH to LOW, which made RS playable again. I have been playing in LOW detail the past two weeks, and have had no further problems since the lagging, freezing, and crashing which started for me on Sept. 11th.

Settings ----> Graphics ----> LOW

This may well help with your lagging and CPU issues. Good luck!

Thanks. I'll try that once maintenance is done.
Seems reasonable that there is some bug with the openGl update. Client graphic lag shouldn't affect network lag stuff though IMHO. But I have no idea how Runescape is multithreaded (stays a hard problem especially in online games). Best quick theory I got is that the network communication and graphics are partially on the same thread (/ Something is sometimes waiting on client calculations before communicating with server?) and my 5 generations old laptop cpu literally can't keep up?(only using half the cores) Seems to me like something that could be put on different threads with no awaits.
