I was on RS3 and lost my account because I would change my password to a garbage password and with in 5 minutes someone was actually accessing my account. I followed all of the tips that JAGEX gives to no avail and when I asked them for more help they "copped out" and told me to check with the community. I had been contemplating going on the OSRS before this.
was reviewing some Comments and some one referred to a logon virus. this appears to be the only explanation. Can someone give me some advise for checking the various logon viruses? Thank you.

Hello,

I'm not entirely sure what happened to your RS3 associated account, the minimum password requirements are meant to be more of a guide and not what I would suggest using, it would be ideal to use a stronger password. "logon" viruses from a official Jagex client do not exist, this would need to be a non-affiliated client that would have embedded code in it. Best way to check for this is to ensure you are using an official client by Jagex, as well as ensuring your anti-virus program(s) are up to date.

This sounds like your computer is infected with a keylogger/Remote Access Trojan(RAT) or you have a linked account. I'd definitely scan your computer for malware/viruses to ensure that you do not have one. Once that's done, you should follow the instructions here to see if you have a linked account, either recognized or unrecognized. Linked accounts allow you -- or a hijacker, for that matter -- to bypass the Authenticator and the password to log in.

If you see unrecognized linked accounts -- those accounts that weren't added by you and most likely a hijacker -- remove them immediately and then change your password. If you see recognized linked accounts -- those that were willingly set up by you -- please ensure that they are completed secured by following all the instructions here: How to: Unlink Unrecognized Linked Accounts or How to Protect Them If You Have Voluntarily Added Them.

All in all, the best tips, suggestions, and instructions on how to maximize your overall security may be found on this specific Support article guide: Security tips .

I do regularly run a malware. there is only Steam linked to my account. I will take it to a computer store to check for a Logon virus check. I have followed the other security precautions. thanks. I hope I can get back into membership soon. thanks. Mr. Spock, the women on your planet are logical. That's the only planet in the galaxy that can make that claim. -- James T.
