I would presume that eventually that is the plan! However I am not 100% certain.

Since it's still in beta, there are likely some things that will change in the future & hopefully that's one of them.

Linux needs it's own native Jagex Launcher if security is the focus of the new Launcher you can't simply pass it off to Proton/Wine/Lutris to run it there are a variety of problems that occur when trying to use a compatibility layer vs Native support. There are also native windows viruses that can latch themselves to Wine/Proton making it very insecure. Without being able to play directly through RuneLite it now falls on Jagex to provide Linux Support. Treat Linux users fairly give us our own client! non Windows/Mac users make up 14% of the PC Market Place (11.1% confirmed Psuedo-Linux) with Mac only taking up 17%. Of those users 1.38% of them play games on Linux while only 2.48% of users game on Mac and that was just in 2022. If you're making a Mac client we ask that you also make a native Linux version preferably via Flatpak, Snap or .AppImage.

I'm appealing to Jagex to make a Native Linux client we must band together so our voices are heard.

Vote OS Agnosticism! It shouldn't matter what you play on, just that you enjoy playing on it.

Jagex doesn't have to support Ubuntu if they help out the proton steam experimental way of running a exe natively on Ubuntu 23/22 through steam.

I want to play RS3 on Ubuntu 23. How do I do that?
I get "runescape-launcher depends on libssl1.1 but libssl1.1 is uninstallable"
To fix this-

I downloaded the package myself into my download folder-
https://packages.debian.org/sid/amd64/libssl1.1/download
I installed it
sudo dpkg -i (your specific path here)/Downloads/libssl1.1_1.1.1o-1_amd64.deb

And then RuneScape 's directions worked finally. Although, I found I was unable to use my jagex launcher created character on the RuneScape app for some reason? Unable to login via Google or anything as it directed me to some"third party login" page that said use the runescape launcher dummy.

So to use my account... I installed steam, and went through the steam settings to find an experimental way to play it via "Proton".
After changing steam to use the latest experimental version I can play and have downloaded RuneScape on a Old windows PC converted to use Ubuntu OS 23. with the steam snap package on their software section.

After connecting my runescape account to my steam account, steam auto magically logged me into my runescape letting me use my account :) good luck.
