OK, I clicked on the bottom left cog whilst the client was loading and I have the options box.

There is a cache folder with C:\programData\jagex

When I click on the 3 dots on the right, it takes me to two folders:

Launcher
Runescape

Do I literally just right click runescape and delete it and then continue to log into the game?

Thank you.

Well... you will be deleting the cache while the game is running. You're not meant to do that, I think. The button with three dots is meant to open a window for choosing the location of the cache in case you want to put it some place other than the default. But, you do go to C:\ProgramData\Jagex\RuneScape to find the cache files if you want to delete them.

Thank you for the response Pinguicula.
What I was suggesting was just following advice given within a link supplied in these forums to an official jagex clearing cache advice page, so if what you say is correct, then we are being given wrong advice.
It specifically states to right click the cog while the client is loading and to then delete the cache files at that point.
When I copied and pasted your suggested C;....etc, it takes me to a folder with two other folders within it:
Launcher
Runescape
Withing the runescape folder are many files all with the word cache within them
Sorry I am very confused :(

Yes, when you go to C:\ProgramData\Jagex\ you will see two folders there. You can either delete the whole RuneScape folder or go in to the RuneScape folder and delete all the cache related files in there. Then, the next time you start the game the things you deleted will be recreated. Actually, just now I tried deleting the RuneScape folder while the game was running by clicking the three dot button to get to it's location. I was told that it couldn't be deleted because the folder is being used by a program, the client itself I presume.

PS:
Windows
RuneScape
Whilst the client is loading click the 'Options' cog in the lower left
Your cache files are saved in 'Cache folder'
Locate and delete the whole folder
You can also enter the command 'deletejs5caches' into the Developer Console and restart the game to clear your cache.
This is from the official runescape support page.
I would suggest it should add do not attempt this in game or proceed to game after doing this.
