I am trying to clean all folders/files relative to the game of RuneScape (a Jagex production) from my PC so I can install their latest launcher.

I was able to go into my PC's "control panel" and remove/uninstall all connected to this game; however, all the files continue to show up on my hard drive. (I think I have the terminology correct.)

In my attempts to clean out that folder I find one folder in it (with only one file in this folder) and quite a few "files". In my attempt to "delete" these I get the message, "The action can't be completed because the folder or a file in it is open in another program. Close the folder or file and try again." I did close folder and try again. Did not work.

How do I get these files off my computer?

Hello Jodie, to help you with your problem ... start your computer and leave any program closed, just a regular startup.

On your computer search your maps/files for 'RuneScape' ...
After search results do show all its maps/files it could find delete all maps/files which were found with 'RuneScape'

Again on your computer search your maps/files for 'Jagex' ...
After search results do show all its maps/files it could find delete all maps/files which were found with 'Jagex'

After having done that your computer is cleaned from all maps/files that have anything to do with RuneScape and you should be able to do a clean install with Jagex's latest RuneScape-launcher.
If you are not sure, after having removed all related maps/files showing in 'RuneScape'/'Jagex' results you could restart your computer first before attempting to install a new launcher.

2-tron, I'm sorry my initial post was not clear....

I "did" find all folders/files related to both RuneScape and Jagex and "did" attempt to delete them. I continued to get the message stated in my initial post.

There's one other option assuming you have Windows as OS.

Startup your computer in 'Safe Mode' and search for that map with files and delete the entire map in 'Safe Mode'. This should delete the map entirely, than restart your computernto see if it is gone.

To find the proper link for you fill in in googles search-bar ...
How to start in Safe Mode Windows 10?
... that way you should find the right page.
