the new "beta" launcher fail

sadly tech support has been no help yet.
so before others test the "beta" launcher - - -

I would like the game client only as it worked fine until i tried the launcher.
which I have removed the launcher a few times now. as that is when this trouble began on my PC
but sadly the launcher will not go away.

is there another way to delete the launcher from my PC?
be great to know how to fix this PC so it can run the game as it did two days ago. :)

However, as Jagex mentioned in their January 26th Closed Beta announcement, they would invite more players "once they're satisfied". Obviously the first phase of the Closed Beta went well and Jagex is satisfied to go with Phase 2 now.

Also please note the instructions for accessing the Beta and where to share any issues or feedback was included in the email and your inbox. Perhaps you should follow the instructions and terms listed on that email to share your feedback with Jagex to catch their attention.


Due to the terms of the Closed Beta, I don't think there is much to elaborate on the RSOF anyway. :)

well shucks then im stuck with an unplayable game?
it was similar with nxt as they had several versions before they got it to work for the majority of players.
[yes i stopped playing and tried the latest version until they fixed it to work reliably]

I am afraid there was no email sent to me.
but I have used a few email addys over the years and can not see any listed in my account these days.
the only in game messages have been about my payment for membership.
they have taken my payments without fail. :)

today I would like to access the game and find the penguins :)

maybe my laptop will continue to work?
this pc was fine two days ago [before I tried the launch]

The previous thread you had in General was locked because you had a thread already in the Tech Support forum. That thread (which is in the appropriate location for resolving issues like this) had received a response before you created this one, and provides you exactly what you are looking for, the Download page where you can download the client itself, not the Jagex Launcher.

Note the text difference on the top of the page: One says "Download the Jagex Launcher" (left side of screenshot). The other says "Download RuneScape" (right side of screenshot)and links to the RuneScape_Setup application, not the Jagex Launcher application. They look similar. They provide different products.



The link again, if you need it from the Tech Support thread, is Download RuneScape .

The Jagex launcher starts your existing client - the client itself has not changed in any way, if it finds you already have the client installed it doesn't reinstall it. If you're seeing a difference in behavior with the client, it is likely the case that the launcher is not responsible and the game would have acted the same regardless of the launcher being there.

In fact, your very first thread highlights this - the weird behavior is what prompted you to look to reinstall stuff and get the launcher. This is why keeping everything in 1 thread is more helpful than multiple threads in different places.

You also mentioned you are running Windows 7 on your Tech Support thread - I know you mentioned you do not want to use a different operating system (I get it, I hate change too and it took me awhile to get used to a new OS when I upgraded years ago), Windows 7 has reached End-Of-Life as far as Microsoft is concerned - there are no longer security updates for it, and as such it is really not a good idea to continue using it.

the link you went to great trouble in showing only gives you RuneScape-Setup.exe
it is a site I have seen and used a few times yesterday & today.
the other (as you explained very well) is for the launcher

I have been looking for a game client that is free of the launcher.
perhaps an older version?

a way to clean the launcher setup from my machine?

You can uninstall the launcher as you would any other program. Look for 'Uninstall a Program' in the Control Panel, and remove the Jagex Launcher through that.

RuneScape-Setup.exe is the installer for the RuneScape client launcher. It installs under the name "RuneScape Launcher." The NXT client has always worked in the way that you install a launcher for the game, and when you open it, it looks for client updates and launches the client.

There is no guarantee that will fix your issue - based on your original thread, this happened before you changed anything on your computer. You may wish to check this week's patch notes to see if something changed in the recent game update that may have affected how the game performs for you.

We are very much at the point where we are discussing technical solutions, so this thread has been moved to the Tech Support forum as mentioned earlier, General really isn't for this type of stuff.
