Hi,

Two years ago I was playing RS3 with my buddies having a great time. We are grown men in our 30's... hah so it's nice to have something to chill out with, when the kids not here. I play on the same computer I work from home with with softwares such as ProArk (document handling system) and a company VPN, and outlook for email. All of this I would use the same time as using the RS3 Client afk. (I know, but my work has periods of long meetings and boring moments, so afk gaming a bit or even playing while in the meetings was fun for me).

Long story short:
Suddenly out of no where my account got a temp ban for two days. It stated that the next time it will be permanent. I assumed it was because I was using other softwares ( for documents as I mentioned, such as microsoft words and ProArk) and the game had incorrectly assumed something else was clicking in the background. As I had two step verification on the account there was no way someone had "hacked" me and there was no way there would be any "botting" software on this computer. Regardless, jagex said they had proof and there would be no discussion. I assume this cuts down a lot of time to not deal with false positives.

Regardless, now when I am back I am buying membership 1 month at a time. I do want to bind my account for a year, as this 1. gives good benefits, and two I know I will be playing this game for a long time, but I am really worried for another false ban.

Can anyone advice how to avoid this? I do need to have the option to log in to work while I play as well. I wish jagex had a phone I could reach them on, as it's really frustrating to know I can be "banned" at any time for no reason I can see.

It is of course annoying that they won't tell you what was wrong, but from their point of view it has to be this way because otherwise anyone who was doing it deliberately could learn what got them detected. And similarly it is hard for there to be any useful discussion about it because there isn't really anything you can say that someone deliberately using automation couldn't say.

Firstly you should have a think about whether you have any small automations that you didn't realise, for instance:
* Programmable or combination keys or mouse buttons, e.g. a double-click button or a key that types "000" with one press.
* Keys/buttons that move your mouse cursor.
* Software that lets you program or record and replay any actions.
Basically, anything that either acts by itself or where one physical input by you can be turned into program inputs that are either multiple or nonstandard.

It is of course also possible that your work stuff has upset them - Maybe for instance ProArk has features that interact with other software and could fall into the above? In theory they could be sensitive to the VPN, and if your work provided any special security software then it is possible that this could interfere. (Roughly speaking, games these days often want to be the most powerful thing on your computer, in the name of checking that nothing is fooling them, but security software also wants to be the most powerful thing.)
Note also that the ban can occur a long time after whatever triggered it, so don't just think about what you did the day before.

One idea - though expensive and inconvenient - is to get a separate computer/laptop that you keep simple and use for Runescape and possibly other well-known games, but no other thing (like your work setup) that may take a claim over the system.

Or you could try the mobile phone version of the game.

At the end of the day, if you play a large-scale multiplayer game then you're going to have to live with the uncertainty of bans.

Hello!

This is a well written reply. However, there is a certain logic to my post as well I Daresay? All said and done I never had any macro related softwares on my computer. Or automation.

Still you've made many good points. And while other mmorpgs never really ban their users like this, I guess it's something you just got to accept while playing RS.

Guess I will stick to monthly sub and just take it if they ban me again, for whatever reason this time.-..
