I would like to know if it is possible to set up Runescape Authenticator with two separate devices, so codes from either device can be used to login.

Yes - you just need to scan the QR code with both devices when it is presented to you at setup time (or note down the manual entry code). Just remember that QR code is only presented when you enable the authenticator and can't be viewed after that unless you disable and re-enable the authenticator, at which point a new one will be generated.

The authenticator used is time based - so as long as the correct seed is provided to the app and the date/time on the device is correct, it will generate correct codes no matter what device it is on.

NO

You can install RuneScape Authenticator on several devices to divide your total of accounts but not for one and the same account.
I am pretty adamant when it comes to account security that the intentions Jagex/JMods did have when they first launched RuneScape Authenticator, that it was meant for a ‘
single device only
’ and not meant to install on multiple devices simultaneously.

Do visit next page … Enable authenticator … in ‘
s Support Centre
’.
The text written there only suggest a ‘single device’ to where RuneScape Authenticator is put on.

BUYING/SELLING AND SHARING ACCOUNTS
Players must not share, transfer or lend their account to anyone else. You may have as many game accounts as you like, but each account should only be used by the person who created it. All game accounts are the property of Jagex and players are only granted limited permission to use accounts. Nobody has our permission to sell accounts.

If you buy an account, it’s likely that the seller will take it back from you after you have already put time, resources and effort into it.

For another player to use your account they will require your login details. This means your account security is weakened. If you allow somebody else to access your account they might steal items or Gold (GP) from you or even try to claim the account belongs to them so they can keep using it forever. In addition, if they cheat or break our rules using your account they could get your account muted or banned for things that you haven’t done.

Sharing accounts is also a form of cheating. This is because sharing an account with somebody else gives you an unfair advantage. Completing challenging achievements and appearing on the HiScores is recognition of individual effort, and should only apply to players who stick to the rules and play fairly.

==========

The above from ‘
Rules of RuneScape
’ I have highlighted in here because what you are asking is a ‘
form of sharing account details
’ … meaning … you wanna share yours RuneScape Authenticator with/over 2 devices instead of 1 device.

Who is going to check if those 2 devices are your personal devices and who is going to check if you do not share one of both devices with someone else?

There are even higher risks involved:

- bringing account recovery in jeopardy or compromise the whole process of account recovery
- difficulty in transferring RuneScape Authenticator to a new device
- account being locked due to ‘suspicious activity’
- your account security has dropped 50%

There’s also a possibility that Jagex/JMods already have registered any device scanning the code for RuneScape Authenticator.

==========

As a player I wanna give you honest and sound advise, meaning that I shouldn’t advise you to go ‘
experimenting and or attempting
’ to break the Rules of RuneScape as that is prohibited and ‘
definitely strongly discouraged
’ by Jagex/JMods.

Players should not attempt to find loopholes in the Rules of RuneScape and/or Terms & Conditions to find ways to change ones appearance in RuneScape, by using technical tricks to change that appearance or the situation they are in.

I strongly discourage you to not go that way and only use your accounts RuneScape Authenticator on a single device as is suggested by Jagex/JMods in ‘
Jagex’s Support Centre
’ … Enable authenticator .

Players whom encourage you to circumvent the Rules of RuneScape should be reported to Jagex/JMods and that players advise being ignored.

I'm sorry 2_Tron, but that really doesn't make much sense.

Setting up Authenticator on two devices is just another way of making a backup of the Authenticator secret code, and arguably quite a good way to do it as you can password protect the second device in addition to physically securing that device (e.g. locking it away in a drawer).

It is no different to printing out the secret key and locking that away somewhere, or using a cloud backup for the key (e.g. Authy).

Just because someone sets up Authenticator on a second device does not mean they are sharing the account, so claiming that makes setting up a second Authenticator device against the rules makes no sense. That's like arresting someone for buying a kitchen knife because buying a kitchen knife means they are going to murder someone.

To the OP, setting up Authenticator on two devices is just fine. Just make sure you store the second device securely.

If you are using Google Authenticator, then you can export the codes to another device also running Google Authenticator - Settings->Transfer accounts

Hello 2_Tron

Your last two posts have been hidden because they are off-topic arguing with a community helper's assessment of the situation rather than helping the OP with their situation. It was only last week that you were writing similar posts on another thread, as well as complaing about forum moderation of your off-topic posts.

Here is some of the advice that you were previously given, which you have ignored:

Please defer to the
Community Helpers ,
as they have extensive knowledge about account matters.

and

Community Led Account Help Rules

These Forums are supported by a team of official Community Helpers. Community Helpers have been identified by Jagex as providing accurate, helpful information. They can be identified by the 'Community Helper' title next to their forum posts.

This is not the first time that you have mis-interpreted a situation and provided mis-information or irrelevant information. Each time, though, when this has been pointed out, you do not accept it. I do not know why this happens, but I would like you to consider that it may be happening because you seem to approach those who create an AH thread as if they have the worst motives. Bluntly put, that taints your response to them and shifts the conversation from how to help them.

Please use the time away to reflect on this as well as considering how the content of your future posts can respectfully work with Community Helpers and others who are providing help.
