I have two issues. One is that I was not given the 10 backup codes to save and guard with my life, so I have no backup codes at all. Honestly, I never saw any list of codes to save and guard with my life and I just got new glasses in February, so my eyes can't have changed that much in 5 months. Has this happened to anyone else? I kept waiting for the legendary 10 codes so show up, but eventually I was told the process was finished and to go play RS and I hadn't gotten them.

The second is I was not given an option to use anything but my email to receive the codes. I was under the impression I would be able to use alternate means to receive the codes, such as a text to my mobile, but that wasn't an alternative. If my email should get hacked I'll be in trouble. Is that because I'm in the US and the origin of the codes is in Britain, so it would be an international text or something?

Granted, I'm an old lady and not as tech savvy as most RS players, but I find myself more lost with this stuff than at any time since they changed combat and my clannies helped me with that. I've been playing 16 years-got 15 year cape last summer. Help!

Hi there
Leora66

The Backup codes appear onscreen during the Jagex Account creation process.
They appear in a box in the middle of the screen with two buttons underneath
- download codes - copy codes

Then finally a check box that has to be checked before you can move on. This check box says "I have kept my backup codes in a safe place"
The last button on that screen is the 'Finish' button

The next screen after asks either for an Auth code or one of the backup codes to continue Leora66 said :

You are confusing the 'backup' codes with the 'security' codes.
The security code is either your Authenticator or, if you aren't using an Auth, the code Jagex emails out each time you login.

Read the information on the Upgrade your RuneScape character to Jagex account support page including watching that video.
It looks to me like you can replace the backup codes in Account Management but I haven't tried that.
There is a 'Contact Us' button at the bottom of the page if you want to message Jagex about the issue.

Just wanted to clarify this - you only receive the backup codes if you enable the authenticator app method of entering a security code, rather than just using email security codes. The backup codes are not provided at creation of a Jagex account, since only email security codes are available at that point.

WOW This is exactly what happened to me and is probably why I did not get the 10 backup codes when I set this "jodie" account up on a Jagex Account. :( (( And I've been worried (high blood pressure up) about what occurred.

Now my concern is getting my registered email and/or password changed on this "jodie" account without it messing up the Jagex Account. So much confusion..............

By linking this "jodie" character to the Jagex Account have I actually melded them together so that the email and/or password for one is the same as the email and/or password for the other?

Your old information (your old login, your old password) aren't relevant anymore - they get disabled entirely once you migrate to a Jagex Account. Think of your Jagex Account as a container that holds all of your RuneScape accounts within it. Individual RuneScape character logins are a thing of the past with the new system.

The only information you need to worry about is the Jagex Account email and password - set via the Jagex Account Management website. So long as you know what that is, you're fine. If you want to change that, you can do that via the Jagex Account Management website.
