The account recovery questions for when you lose access to an email are awful. Stated multiple times, the most important information for account recovery is early account information. I will list these questions and the problems with them:

Membership details: Please provide details of the earliest membership payment you can remember.
The problem with this question is that I created the account 9 years ago. My first membership could have been with a credit card or a jagex store card, it was 9 years ago.

What was the card number?
Seeing as it was probably mom/dads card and it was 9 years ago, and credit cards expire every 5-6 years, and no sane person would memorize an old card number (Probably not even a new card number), and most people have multiple cards, it would probably be impossible to find that card number. Especially without access to the email with the receipt.

When was this membership? Well this isn't hard, let me check my email (the one place you get a receipt)... Oh wait...

Well lets try another method. When exactly did you make your account? Again, let me check my email... Oh...
I mean, who knows this information unless they very recently created the account. Am I expected to remember the month/year I created an account nearly 10 years ago.

Who was your ISP when you created your account?
Not enough information to go off I guess.

Text box that allows you to put in any further information:
Names and card numbers for memberships do nothing here. I mean who else would have the most recently used card number. "What if someone stole your card?" If they stole my card to access my RS account I would be concerned for their well being. Locations played do nothing here. Also, there is a 300 character limit so it is nearly impossible to fit all the possible information that could help verify your account here.

If anyone has any tips on non early creation information verification information please let me know.

Want to make it clear I am not blaming RS for not having access to my email, that was purely my fault for signing up for aol... I'm glad they have a verification process, I just wish that it was a little bit easier to gain access without having access to an old email still.

What has always annoyed me is how yahoo disables your email if you haven't used it in years. I had trouble recovering a League Of Legends account when they migrated to a Launcher of their own. Luckily the other details I gave them were enough. Man, that was a pain...

As for advice, I don't know, did you take any screenshots back in the day? ones that were not shared online, of course. Or people that have been on your friends list 'forever' you could maybe mention a private topic you both spoke about if you know the rough time? I don't know if any of this would help so before anyone picks it apart, offer your own help first.
My advice would be to start documenting certain things for the future, you'll thank yourself.

This might be better in 'community led account help' - those guys/gals may be able to help.

Yeah Aol was bought out by Yahoo if I remember right. What they did for me is they want me to verify my account by them sending me a text message, but its a prepaid phone I had back in 2012 lol. Calling the support number, the only other option, led to a massive headache, and each time they said we cant help you unless you have the phone.
I do know some of my old friends, but we usually played in person, and then we started playing through skype --> discord. My memory is not great but I may be able to provide some information from conversations that would help. I'll give it a try, it cant hurt, thanks.

I'll probably make another post in that forum soon, I'll try not to sound like I'm ranting though haha.

Original message details are unavailable.
Read this article! It's a good guide!

Unfortunately I have provided as much of the information in that article as I could. I provided people who have bought my membership before, my payment from when i bought membership, etc. Each time I get an email shortly after saying Appeal Denied.

Oh yeah phone numbers too, those expire and get given to somebody else after inactivity. I had an awesome phone number as a kid, it repeated digits like ABCD-CD-CD-CD-D, now somebody else has it because I didn't top it up with credit for however long. Grr...

Unlucky with the denied appeal, but just think, could somebody else know this information and use it to try and hack your account? if the answer is yes, that information is pretty much useless to Jagex.

You'll have to do some digging! The address of where you first made the account might help, the payment methods (eg: if you used card for 80% and text/phone for 20% from 2005-2010) a ratio might help. If it was your parents who paid for your membership 'way back when' then ask them if they have any old billing statements or something. - I've just googled it, and apparently it's not possible to find out your old card numbers after they get replaced / updated (which happens every 4 years or so). It might be a good idea to note your current one down before the scissors eventually get to it. That said, your parents should have a transaction history somewhere that'd state the last 2 digits of the card they used and date. Even if the transaction wasn't to Jagex, if the years line up then I guess there's a chance the same card was used? I don't know. This is why we set up 2-step authentication I suppose!

I feel sorry for you but I'm also very glad that they are strict with recovery.

Hi there
Upset Roach

Please post and tell us how quickly the deny reply arrives after you submit your recovery.
If we know the answer to this, we can tell how far into the process you have got stuck.

If your deny replies are arriving too quickly (less than 5 minutes), the information you put into the 'Other Comments' box won't have been checked yet.

There is no point submitting in-game conversations you had years ago. In-game chat is not saved unless it is reported for rule breaking.

The email you register with your account is really, really important. The registered email holds the front door keys to your RuneScape account. It can get you back into your account if you forget the password or if Jagex lock the account.

If you truly cannot get access to that email, your only option is to do a recovery on your account and a recovery means providing enough information to prove that YOU created the account. Not that you have had access but that you created the account.

This is why Jagex is asking for the creation information.
Ask family members for help. Maybe they can remember what ISP was in use at that time.
Ask friends for help. Maybe they can remember when you started playing as, maybe, they started playing at the same time. You don't need the exact month, just be within a few months either side. I know someone who was successful at recovery and their creation month was wrong by 17 months, though the rest of their creation information was pretty accurate.

Credit cards expire but the replacement card will have exactly the same number with a new expiry date. Ideally Jagex want the first 6 and last 4 numbers on the card and a transaction ID. If you don't have that you should still know who paid, how they paid and payers postcode and email .

It is the early information that will get you back into the account. Recent information has little value.

Hey Malua. Thank you for the information. I usually get a denied email around 30 minutes later. Sometimes it takes up to 10 hours. The first appeal took close to 24 hours. Would providing my exact address and addresses played from help? I know almost all the addresses I played from. My ISP I know was correct, but I may have created the account at a friends house down the street.
As for time of the account creation, I could probably be accurate within 17 months, but doubtful I could be accurate within 12 or less.
I didn't know that card numbers remained the same if they only expired, I will try to submit my moms card data and see if that hopefully is the same. I know for a fact my dad's has changed, since when a card is stolen/lost the number is automatically changed. I'll see if he may have an email still with the rs billing information, although its been around 9 years, so I doubt he hasn't cleared his email.
