Hi all,

I met a new person today at the tombs of amascut.
My cc leader told me he found a guy to play some toa with. He asked me to add him ingame and on discord. After the raid, he asked me to open discord and look at his screenshare.
He showed me a runelite client running perfectly with a few new plugins. If i wanted to have the same layout as he did, i had to update my old client and get the newer one.
I was sceptical about all of this, but my cc leader introduced me to him/them, their (cheat) client was running like the regular runelite client (shown @ screenshare and pictures) so I went for it.. I updated the client and logged onto my alt account first, nothing happend. After running the client perfectly on my alt, i’ve switched to my main account to get into the raid. I got a screen freeze after 5 seconds and couldnt do anything. I got dced and there were too many login attemps on my account. After a couple of minutes i could get back online but everything was already taken.

I can hear you say, that’s so obvious, own fault etc, but I’m a lonewolf, played the game since 02 as a soloplayer and never joined any cc’s or discord, until the end of 2022(joined my first cc). I played mostly on tablet/phone so i was pretty new to all of this runelite and discord adjustment circus.
I guess this was just one big act of the cc owner to gain my trust within a couple of months to scam me after..

I don’t care about the 1.7b that i’ve lost, all I want to know is if my pc is at risk and what I should do to remove any shady files on my pc. Is there a way to track down the file(s) of the scammer?
Im not posting any details on how to get the fake scam client over here because other people may get scammed, but I have more info if needed.

Is there a way to check if my pc is infected with anything and will a 1 week system recovery will be enough to get rid of it?

I hope that there is someone willing to help me out!
Thank you

Ghost

First of all, do remove said malicious version of runelite entirely off of your computer, including its installation program.
After that, download a '
free version of Avast
' antivirussoftware and scan your computer and remove all infected software off of your computer, several times. Restarting your computer after every scan & removal.
That's still no guarantee that it has been removed all depending where they did put it.
If something seems to be impossible to remove, write down on paper the link to that piece of software, start your computer in '
safe mode
' and remove that 'impossible to remove' piece of junk, as that is the only safe to remove option.

Btw ... if you have installed 'odds-on/upgrades/updates/plugins' that are installed seperately please do remove them all too.
