Being forced to upgrade acc?

I thought upgrading to a jagex account was a choice the players were supposed to make, and not a forced thing? I was trying to get into a League Soul wars world ( which there are only 2 of btw), and proceeded to get hit with a too many login attempts prompt. However, now it wants me to login with the jagex launcher to be able to play the fking game, which for ppl that don't know, you have to use a jagex account to add an account to the jagex launcher now. Therefore, the only way for me to login to play leagues now is to my account a jagex account? I guess I no longer get to play my gim without upgrading account (I don't want to upg it).

At the bottom of 'Jagex Launcher FAQ-page' there's a small text that points you to the option to not have to use Jagex Launcher as long as you haven't have a Jagex Account.

What if I don't want to use the Jagex Launcher?


Currently, the Launcher is optional if you do not have a Jagex account. Eventually, the RuneScape and Old School RuneScape standalone clients will no longer be supported. If you don't want to use the Launcher just yet, you can follow these links to install the standalone
RuneScape
or
Old School
clients.


How long these options will remain available I do not know ... choice is yours.

Hey, SadLittleHog.

If you have NOT upgraded your account to a Jagex Account , then, at the moment, you are NOT required to use the Jagex Launcher to play. Now, if you have already upgraded to a Jagex Account, then, the only way to play is to use the Jagex Launcher. As of November 7th, 2023, it's mandatory to use a Jagex Account in order to use the Jagex Launcher .

Now, if you do not have a Jagex account, you may download each RuneScape client separately if you wish to play:

Eventually, though, Jagex's plan is to have everyone upgrade to a Jagex Account for the best security settings possible. As of right now, we do not know when that will be, but the time will come :) .
