Player Designed Content competition

The success of Old School comes from one thing, the community. The community control what content goes into game and how Old School will develop over time.

One big success we had last year was the Player Designed Content competition that we ran in October. We received over 100 new ideas for more content to add to Old School. You voted for your favourite piece of content and then voted to have it included into Old School. The result of this saw 9 new agility courses added to the game which ran around the rooftops of Gielinor; courtesy of BigRedJapan.

Although we could only include one update as the winner of the Player Designed Content competition, we have used multiple features from some of the ideas that were submitted to improve Old School. For example, the new slayer monsters – the kraken.

Now it is time to ask you to put on your creative caps once more. As we want to hold another Player Designed Content competition.

PDC: Brains over brawn
Over the last couple of months we have seen a lot of combat updates to Old School, so we want to theme this completion to deliver a skilling update. This means any ideas sent in cannot include any combat so no slayer, no PvP and no bosses. That gives you a whole host of skilling ideas to choose from, perhaps a way to make firemaking more useful or a new sort of runecrafting mechanic. Of course, the update can benefit combat, but you shouldn’t have to take part in combat to play the new content.

Put on your thinking caps!
We see a huge amount of really good ideas to add into Old School and to help you get the best from your ideas, we have put a few pointers together:

  • Be original: Don’t simply try to rehash something that you can play in RS3, let the idea be truly yours.
  • Stand out from the crowd: We will receive loads of ideas for new content– what will make yours better than the rest?
  • Make the pitch good: What you submit to us will be pitched to the community who will ultimately decide what wins. Be creative with how you present your idea.
  • Make it realistic: One thing we cannot do is make new graphics for Old School, so any ideas will need to include existing graphics.

How to enter
To enter the PDC: Brains over brawn competition you have until 11:59PM GMT on 23rd February to submit your entry to [email protected] .

We will select our favourite entries and present to them to the community on the 26th February. A poll will run between the 26th February and the 2nd March for the community to choose their favourite. We will then submit to you a detailed design brief for the winning entrant to be polled in the next content poll on the 5th March. As usual, the poll starting on the 5th of March the winning entry will need to receive 75% approval rating.

how many of these are you planning on doing exactly? I know you say this one is for a March 5 poll but do you plan another skilling one for after this as well? There are a lot more skills that are noncombat is why i ask. And will some ideas be saved for a future poll to maybe make it as well? Just curious.
