Why buy lamps at all?
I think that's a better question.

Smouldering lamps seem nice and all, but they give so much xp, because they consume your bonus xp instantly, which you also had to get from keys or whatever. So essentially, without prior investments, they are just normal lamps and with prior investments, simply consume these to instantly give you what you already had...
