In the current Gone Adventuring treasure hunter promotion, I can see that the next reward I get is a skilling outfit piece I already own (the first age amulet).

What happens if I win it? Do I just waste a key, or do I get something else instead?

You wont win one you already have. The richest person is not who has the most. It is who Needs the least.

It may just be an image that represents the set you would get a piece from.

Well, with the return of the Gone Adventuring promo, I decided follow your recommendations and pick it.
The piece didn't change, so do I cash it out for oddments or gamble on it transforming into another piece if I claim it?

Taking oddments would be silly.

If you are wrong, you lose an outfit piece.
If you are right, you lose a few oddments who cares.

Besides that obvious logic you can't get a duplicate outfit piece.

Take the outfit piece & learn from the result and inform others here.
