Hi, I'm hoping for some advice in regard to issuing prizes for events.

I'm going to be hosting a Halloween event and first prize is going to be RuneScape gold pieces. I haven't done anything like this before and I'm wondering are there any precautions I should take?

For example if I give the prize to the winner in game, there's nothing to stop them falsely claiming they didn't receive the prize.

Is it possible to request a J-Mod to be a middle man for the exchange of RuneScape gold or other in game prizes?

I'm wondering how do other fansites do it? Is it just simply a trust trade and that's it?

I would have posted in Event Submission Topic sticky, however my event doesn't fit the criteria as it will be run in the forums and not in the game.

I'd love to hear from anyone who has had experience with giving out prizes in game, as I'm really inexperienced in this area.

When it comes to hosting a fansite event where you are using your in-game wealth as prizes such as GP, Combat Gear and other tradeable items then that is all trust trade. You as a event host should understand and know to keep your word when it comes to handing out prizes to the winning player. Knowing that Jagex can not trade other players it all comes down to players trusting each other mainly the one that is suppose to give away the prize. The only players who needs to trust you will own up to your word are the ones entering the contest as well as the ones who wins.

There is nothing secret or special about hosting in-game wealth contests but always remember you do not need a middle man and who ever is hosting should be the one who give the prizes away. But if your fansite is doing a prize pool then the one who should be in-charge in collecting all the prizes to give away should be someone who is a lead or the owner of the fansite who can be actively on and attend the event. When hosting these events you should always put your self in the shoes of the one entering and be trustworthy as possible when it time to give the winner their prizes.

Now if you are giving away in real life items that is when you can use Jagex as a middle man, like a third party to deliver these items to winning players. So players can feel more secure when giving up their address. When I hosted in real life contests for my real life bonds I made sure to let people know that when entering this contest a valid mailing address will have to be submitted if you win. Which lets them know that I will be personally shipping it to them. But I always reminded them that I will handle their personal information and not store their mailing address anywhere.

Those are my little tip's, again you do not need Jagex to step in as a overseer to make sure people get their prizes. You also have to understand that Jagex can not trade players or have a special tool to send items to them.

Best of luck

As far as someone claiming they did not receive their prize, how I combat this is with taking screenshots as well as telling them to take a screen shot and tweet it out letting everyone know that they got their prize. But if someone wish to claim and all of sudden be blind and say they did not get the prize knowing that they truly did, I usually would ignore something like that, and just add them to a list of player unable to participate and ensure to everyone that they will receive their prize. If people see that they are getting their prize then they will understand that the other guy is just blowing smoke. If they try to question why that player has not gotten then prize I will just fully explain to them the situation.

With hosting competitions like this you just have to put trust and faith that people will be truthful and honest with you, but if it escalate to a point where Jagex needs to step in because a player continue to claim that they did not receive their prize and their behavior is ruining all your in-game wealth contests, then you can get Jagex to step in and look into the matter. Usually Jagex (I believe) will look into it and then personally inform the player that they have received their prize and should not continue their behavior.

Thanks for the detailed reply DieHunted :)

That's what I pretty much assumed but I thought I might as ask to see how others approach this.

In all honestly it's not something that I'm particularly worried about, but I was recently asked how do event hosts protect themselves against this. As far as I knew there was no way but I wasn't sure.

I expect it'll go without issue, but it would nice if we had a better method of delivery for in game prizes.

Anyway thank you again for your reply :)

A JMod will not act as a middle man as JMod accounts cannot trade and character profiles should not be altered directly under normal circumstances.

If you have an issue report it to the community team and we will look into it for you :)
