Hi,

I'm considering changing my editing system from Sony Vegas to Adobe Premiere and After Effects, mainly because Vegas is a pain when it comes to rendering or transition editing (black screen issues) and numerous other reasons, but so far I haven't heard much in the way of negative reception for Adobe Premiere or After Effects. I've done a bit of research on both editing systems but I would like to know what others think of it. So if any of you guys have used them, tell me, are they any good?

Heya!

I have some experience with both programs; and for someone like me After Effects and Premiere was very appealing (except for their price!). After Effects is mainly made for motion graphics and visual effects whereas Vegas and Premiere are more a clip-arranging (very roughly!) program. If you already own Sony Vegas you could simply consider purchasing After Effects and combine them?

What Mexk said.

I currently use Sony Vegas Pro 12 and the issue that you stated about black screen rendering and such is fixed within this version of Vegas. You might be using an outdated version if you're still having this issue.

All non-linear editing systems are pretty much the same (Premier, Vegas, Final Cut, etc). After Effects is mainly used for motion graphics, visual effects (like Mexk said).

I personally love Vegas and I dabble with After Effects for certain projects. I'd recommend having both.

Thanks for the help guys! I've actually tried everything to fix the likes of black screen issues on Vegas, the first thing I did was update it just in case with no joy. :/

I think I'll try doing what you guys suggest and use a mix of Vegas and After Effects, appreciate the help, I'll need to look up a few tutorials!

I'd recommend sticking with whatever you're used to - changing programs and relearning is a massive hassle!

But yeah those random vegas black screens!! :|
