I was cleaning out my bank , and removing any items of no importance, when I noticed- and subsequently ditched- glarial's amulet.

This got me thinking about the consequences of The Light Within, which I hadn't really thought of in a while. I tried to use glarial's amulet on Baxtorian in the tower of voices, but unfortunately there's no programmed response to that.

But then I started talking to him- and thinking waaaaay back to the Waterfall Quest. The whole point of the quest, seemingly at the time, was to reunite the remains of Baxtorian and Glarial to get treasure in return. It's a pretty cute love story that they made, but it completely changes with Plague's End.

Baxtorian's released from his statue prison and helps the player to return Seren. He was never dead, as he explains in post quest dialogue- he considered comitting suicide, but instead decided to "wait"

Wait for what?

For Seren's potential return? For a time when his clan would regain control of Priffy? Possibly. But in the interim- why worry about Glarial's ashes, and why offer treasure to some schmuck to return them? If he was going to return, wouldn't he want the pendant to remember her by? He could always dig her up and reburry her later if he decided to. No mention has been made post quest of him scattering her ashes or burying her in Priffy or something, which would be the poetic move if that was the end of his storyline.

But it isn't.

I submit to you that Baxtorian didn't really need to return in The Light Within.

He's just a historical character that got put to work in establishing elven lore, and the waterfall quest was a good enough use of his love story. If they wanted the callback- they could have had a book or something inside the tomb provide all the necessary help Baxtorian provided in The Light Within.

But one of the writers had more planned for Baxtorian, a new storyline with new potential.

Baxtorian still has the ashes given to him in the Waterfall quest, yet to use them, when we placed them in the Chalice of Eternity.

Baxtorian, when asked, even said that he would burn this world all to ash if it meant he could see Glarial even once again.

Well, we've already seen the dead return in Nomad's Elegy, if you're Baxtorian, what are you thinking about right now? It's not like he's got much else to do holed up with Seren.

But in order for Queen Glarial to return, Baxtorian would need her body and soul- he's got one piece to the puzzle with the ashes, sure, but where'd Glarial's soul go?

To the Afterlife- more specifically Tardiadd's Afterlife . Just like Freminik go to the afterlife of Teragard, their ancestral homeworld, many elves should return to their own homeworld.

But, as we saw with Nomad's Elegy, violating the laws of life and death requires a lot of work- and lots of sacrifice. Baxtorian doesn't seem to be one who would hold back either given his post quest dialogue.

The only real question is when will Baxtorian enact his plan.

Not completely asinine.

Certainly would make for an interesting follow up Quest to see him betray all he knows just for a chance to see the one he loves again, only to find out she isn’t actually dead.

I'm not entirely sure.

Don't get me wrong, the guy was:
- "asleep" for an age
- wakes up to find the clan that betrayed the elves kinda sorta forgiven, and the clan leader dead (along with several other traitors)
- wake up to find yet another world war is raging on
- oh, btw, Seren's back and Priff rebuilt
This is A LOT to take in. The guy does have a sense of duty to protect his people (with the whole 2nd God Wars going on) and he has the magical powers to to do it (read on about how he can do wondrous things with his magic ... and declines to share them with the player. Face it, we all wanted to learn those spells ... )

So, yes, his psyche would cling on to any and all chances to revive his love.
He's probably quietly searched thru the Priff Library archives on the matter, and seen what the other races have come up with since he awoke.
If something exists, yes, he'll go after the method.

With Sliske's Endgame, I wonder if now Baxtorian would consider the far simpler approach to rejoining his wife ... death. Heroic suicide to be more specific.
Somewhere in Gilienor is a threat ... something big enough that the rest of the elves are not powerful enough or skilled enough to take down, yet he has the power to deal with. He'll even bring the World Guardian along to maintain appearances (whole host of excuses he could give for using you instead of risking the lives of elves).
Now, Baxotrian can die having killed 3 kebbits with 1 chinchompa:
- removed a threat
- a death with a sense of purpose so the elves wouldn't think it a senseless sacrifice and continue to use him as a model (A few might suspect why he did it, but keep quiet)
- get to finally meet up again with Glarial

Oh gee thanks :P

If it helps, it'd be a chance for people to see Eluned again.

Oh wait.

On thing that's crucial to this theory is that Baxtorian knowing sent himself to 'sleep', rather than kill himself- which he considered. The sequence of recovering Glarial's ashes was crucial to this- as was the sequence of events leading to his awakening in TLW.

I like the idea he was waiting for the Priff library to open. Also gives us a bit of a reason for him to take his sweet time- other than the fact we've seen enough elf content for a good while when TLW came out.

... But why though?

I mean nothing is wrong with your logic itself, just the idea.

Why Baxtorian? We've done enough with the elves. Other races exist.
