Spoilers for Children of Mah, if you haven't played it.

So I decided to go into some dialogue options with Seren, because as the polar opposite to Zaros, she, too, is an incredibly interesting case study of natural-born gods.

As it turns out, she has some plans for Mah.

Nothing too terribly big, of course, but a time-honored tradition in the culture of her elves; a very particular funeral rite involving crystal seeds.

She will plant a seed in Mah's mouth, and she and several of her lords and ladies will sing to the seed, causing it to sprout and grow inside of Mah. It was a symbol of 'the death of her voice, but the continuation of her song'.

By her account, 'the seed will grow, and will fill her body with crystal flowers', but also by her account, it is implied that this will only happen after repeated and sustained visits. But Mah, being an Elder God, is made of stranger stuff than she or her elves; I have to wonder if it will happen differently.

We know crystal seeds to be able to become spectacular things. Tools, weapons, armor. We also know that, although it can drive elves into madness (such as those that effectively merged with the crystals to retain the corrupted form of love that Seren unwillingly inflicted), they can prolong life, such as the supposedly immortal shapeshifters of Tarddiad (citation needed).

So if Seren plants a seed within Mah's maw, and her ladies and lords (and perhaps she herself?) sing to it, we at least know that the seed will spread throughout Mah's body and after enough visits, flowers will sprout.

I believe that this may cause something adverse in Mah. Perhaps it will be a tree, rather than flowers? Or perhaps she will become reborn, or brought back to life with a new level of sentience and cognitive ability, as she should have been? Or perhaps something entirely different?

I'd like to know what everyone else thinks about this, and if the possibility was ever brought up before.
Either get lucky or grind trying.

It's an interesting idea, but I can't see it happening.

At the end of the day, Mah is dead and we have nothing to suggest that crystal seeds have the ability to resurrect anything let alone an Elder God. There's also the definite possiblity that Elder Gods don't function like regular things do. They are normally completely immortal and untouchable with Mah being a special case. Furthermore, bringing Mah back would completely undermine CoM and parts of SE as well as meaning that Seren and Zaros's character growth since the death of Mah will have been pointless.

I don't think there's much else to this than Seren wanting to give Mah a proper 'funeral'.

While this might be interesting (will definitely check the new dialogue Seren has on Mah, since I did not remember this being there initially), I think chances are slim Mah will be revived.

While elder gods are completely different than other gods, I do think they share similarity in that they both have no afterlife. In death they simply are no more. Zaros did come into possession of Mah's core, an item which holds the highest potential to hold Mah's being. But he most likely removed said item from Mah's body, leaving the husk of Mah behind.

That is not to say there is no power in the body of an dead Elder God: I think it might hold a lot of energy itself, even after the siphoning of the Mahjarrat. The ritual Seren intends to perform with the elves might indeed bring about a change in the landscape. Changing the area of Freneskae back to a state where there are (crystal) plants and animals. A fitting memorial to the mother figure of Seren.
I think the effect of the death of Mah is thus more comparable to the death of Guthix in that their remaining energy is fed back into the world, potentially warping it (with the help of people like the player and Seren).

It would surely be a great idea for a quest and a divination/prayer DnD.

Yeah, it would make CoM mostly pointless by that, but regardless, I wouldn't be surprised if something completely unexpected happened when Seren began to grow the seed.

Heck, maybe Mah was tied to closely to Zaros and Seren that planting the seed will end up causing memories of the two to emerge in some way.

Edit: Also, SixOfOne, there's something in storytelling called Chekhov's Gun. The idea is that if a character mentions a gun on the wall in the first act, it will most certainly be used in the second or the third act. I'm almost certain that the developers would never have mentioned this if they weren't planning to do anything with it.

I believe Mah is dead, and will stay that way. No matter what Seren does, Mah will not come back. However, this did give me an idea. Jagex does seem to want to give Zaros and Seren an equal chance when it comes to being Mah's successor. For now, Zaros has Mah's core. Perhaps the funeral that Seren gives Mah will result in something that Seren could use? It may not happen exactly this way, but say that it does result in a tree. A "fruit" could sprout, and Seren could use this fruit so that she has her own tool to match Zaros using the core.

I know about Chekhov's Gun and I agree with what you're saying about it. However, you have to remember that there is the possibility that this was simply intended to be more of a throwaway remark or intended to teach us more about Elven funeral rites. It may not be intended to be more than that, which is something that I personally support. Chekhov's gun does not apply to every single thing mentioned.

I think all she becomes is a puppet...

Although Seren can try to become a elder god to restore Mah.
