Shadow magic is weird. Really weird. Dunno if you've noticed.
So far, I've noticed several different things it can be used for:

Transportation/Teleportation - Xenia and Vanescula's shadow-step abilities when you take control of them, as well as Sliske's shadow teleportation. Drakan also seems to do this, darkening the stage and teleporting to you as one of his special attacks. Ripper demons might do this, might not. Likely takes you through the Shadow Realm.

Solidification of Shadows - Mentioned in a postbag from the hedge as something vampyres are known to do. Sliske demonstrates this ability when he creates shadow apparitions. Most of the shadow monsters in game might be examples of this? There's also the ghostly robes, the shadow sword, Greg's clones, and that shadow ladder from Desert Treasure. Vanstrom MIGHT do this with his wave-of-darkness attack. Sliske's shadow hands, Shadow-forger's shadow claws, and the shadow tendrils attack all seem to be examples.

Shadow Realm Bullshittery - Entering the Shadow Realm and/or seeing into it. But we don't know much about the Shadow Realm as is, beyond the idea that it might be like a pool with a deep end and a shallow end, with monsters residing in the deep end (as implied by Zaros when talking to Nex in 'The Promised Gift'. Presumably, Umbra's shadow-cloaking spells mentioned in the Virtus Book in Torva's last entry makes you blend in with the 'shallow end' of this realm, like the shadow ghosts or ghostly robes. The Shadow Realm also seems to have preservative properties - at least for a Mahjarrat's body, considering Palkeera didn't fade away, turn to stone, or whatever a Mahjarrat does when they die.

Draining of Energy - Enahkra demonstrates this is Dishonor Among Thieves when attempting to balance the energy of the Vault's door with Nomad. There's also the damage reduction effect of shadow spells in game. Lastly, shadow spiders, Camel Warrior shadow mirages, and Damis in Desert Treasure all drain prayer energy.

Imbuement/Enchantment - It seems that shadows can be imbued into something (or someone) to empower and warp it, like Barrows/Malevolent armor, Greg's shadow glaives, and POSSIBLY Damis's armor, and maybe Runescape's version of wights? There's also shadow silk, which presumably lets you blend in with the Shadow Realm. Lastly, Sliske seemed to summon shadow-imbued lightning in Endgame.

Corruption - Light creatures being corrupted into the shadow creatures in Prifddinas as well as (possibly) the ones in the Temple of Light. Relomia is another example of corruption via long term exposure to shadow. Shadow demons might be another example, as is Gregorovic (probably). Corruption might just be a form of shadow enchantment - I imagine anything imbued with shadows could probably be considered 'corrupted'.

So, am I missing anything? Any input? And legit, will we ever get a total explanation of shadow magic? What do you think? Jagex pls help??

I think "Shadow Magic" is just an umbrella term for magicks that draw their power from the Shadow Realm.

That being said, there could be any number of outcomes when using Shadow Magic. Of course there has to be some kind of constant, and I would assume that corruption, darkness, etc would be that constant.

This might be an irrelevant question, but when we are in the shadow realm, we can move through stuff, right? And people can move through us from the shadow realm? That is why we dont trip on Palkeera's body when we use the Infernus Portal. If that is the case, how come we never sink into the ground loool.

^ If you're in the normal realm, you don't interact with things in the shadow realm. When you're in the shadow realm, you don't interact with things in the normal realm (with exceptions for both). The ground of the shadow realm is in the shadow realm, so you don't phase thru it *nod* Mods pls notice me

The easiest solution to this problem is to invert your ideas. That is to say that the real realm passes through the shadow realm, and not the inverse.

I like to think of the shadow realm as "on top" of the normal realm. The same way a shadow in real life falls on top of things. The shadow realm, I feel, must distort itself with the motion of the normal realm to always be "on top" of the matter of the realm. Imagine it like when you walk under the shadow of a tree. You are not actually going through the shadow, but instead, the shadow has translocated itself to be on top of you. You don't fall through the ground while in the shadow realm because you must always be on top of it.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Just some ramifications of this solution

Now if this is the case, this would make any motion within the shadow realm way different than any kind of motion we would experience in the real world. The vertical dimension would have very little bearing on any denizens of this realm. Anyone traveling through the shadow realm could travel hundreds of feet up or down within a blink of an eye. This would appear to be a form of teleportation in the normal realm.

Movement in the horizontal dimension would be wacky. From an external point of view, the shapes and dimensions of the moving shadows would be in constant flux. From an internal point of view, everything would be relative to you, so I don't think you would notice, the same way you don't notice being bent by space-time. But it could give you interesting properties from a normal realm view.
