Hello fellow Gielinorians!

After a few years of absence from the game, I have decided to get back into RuneScape. Next to all the new content, I'm extremely excited to see a bunch of new quests!

Unfortunately, I have lost lots of details about former storylines, so I would like to get acknowledged with them again before doing all those new quests.

So with that said, does anyone have a summary of quests that are part of the big metastory, or are just part of their own big storyline?

Thank you! ^_^

If I remember correctly, it was somewhere around the year 2014. Not too very long after the 6th age started I think. By the way, I'm most likely to become a member again soon, so member quests may be included obviously :)

So you've done a few 6th Age quests, so I'll give you a quick recap:

In The World Wakes, the Mahjarrat Sliske killed Guthix with the Staff of Armadyl. This broke the Edicts, a barrier made by Guthix, preventing other gods from entering Gielinor. Since then, Saradomin beat Zamorak in the Battle of Lumbridge, and Armadyl killed Bandos in early 2014. Sliske announced a tournament in Missing, Presumed Death: whoever kills the most Gods gets the Stone of Jas. You can try and help Zamorak cheat in this competition and steal the stone in Dishonour Among Thieves.

The Stone of Jas is an elder artifact (stuff made by Elder Gods), one of near limitless power. It has allowed many of the other gods to gain power. You use it in While Guthix Sleeps and Ritual of the Mahjarrat. Using the stone attracts the Dragonkin; beings from a previous universe who are uniquely linked to the Stone to protect it. You can learn more about them in One of a Kind and Hero's Welcome.

You've done Fate of the Gods, so I assume you remember that Zaros has returned. Zaros and Seren (the goddess of the Elves) were created by Mah, an Elder God (creators and destroyers of the Universe). Mah also created the Mahjarrat, the powerful beings who we meet in many 5th Age quests. Learn more about Seren in The Light Within.

The Mahjarrat are split into Zarosian and Zamorakian forces. Zamorak himself was once a Mahjarrat who betrayed Zaros, destroying his physical form. Lucien is a notable villains in 5th Age quests, especially While Guthix Sleeps and Ritual of the Mahjarrat. The Mahjarrat story is continued in Children of Mah.

An important quest that doesn't really involve the gods is Plague's End. This is the finale to the Elf series, and opens the gates of Prifddinas; a high level hub for players, include a Grand Exchange and a guild for Maxed players.
I'm just a man; I'm not a hero.
Just a boy who had to sing this song.

Basically this lol. If you need more info, just scour the Runescape Wikia.

One of the major quest storylines last year was called "Sliske's Countdown", which was the climax of the tournament for the Stone of Jas. This consisted of Nomad's Elegy, Kindred Spirits, and Children of Mah, all of which led to the final quest: Sliske's Endgame. The other prerequisites for Sliske's Endgame are One of a Kind and Hero's Welcome, and while the quests are separate from Nomad's Elegy, Kindred Spirits, and Children of Mah, I would recommend playing One of a Kind before Hero's Welcome.

You can play Kindred Spirits on its own now, as Nomad's Elegy and Children of Mah are two of the bigger prerequisites. Both of them require Dishonour Among Thieves, where Zamorak gathers a team to stage a heist to steal the Stone of Jas.

Dishonour Among Thieves features the return of Nomad, with Nomad's Elegy picking up where that quests leaves off. However, you also need to do Heart of Stone, which deals with what Zaros warns of in Fate of the Gods, which is that the Elder Gods may soon wake, and also The Mighty Fall, which deals with the aftermath of Armadyl killing Bandos, as the Bandosians decide what to do now that their god is dead.

Children of Mah requires Koschei's Troubles, referring to Koschei the Deathless from The Fremennik Trials, so you just need to talk to him to get a miniquest. Once you finish that, you can also ask him to do what is largely an excuse to train Divination, although that part is totally optional. If your goal would be Children of Mah, then you also need to do The Light Within, which in turn requires Plague's End. Plague's End revolves around the elves of Clan Iorwerth reaching the final stages of their plan to summon the Dark Lord.

The "main" storyline builds on all of these quests, so consider Sliske's Endgame the "central" quest you need to get to. However, there are other quests that have nothing to do with that.

Jagex has slowly been trying to wrap up former quest series. Plague's End would be one such example, with The Light Within taking the series in a different direction afterwards.

Birthright of the Dwarves picks up from King of the Dwarves, where Veldaban has become king. Hreidmar has typically used the Red Axe to try to take control of Keldagrim, and Veldaban wants to finish off the Red Axe once and for all.

The Lord of Vampyrium begins with many of the citizens of Burgh de Rott missing. Vanescula Drakan approaches you, believing that it may to related to something else that is concerning you. River of Blood follows up from this quest, and marks the end of the Myreque quest series.

Back to the Freezer came out last week, and continues the Penguin series. As fitting with the series, it's far more comedic, and should be seen as its own thing, but it's a really fun quest. If you're just looking for some laughs, especially some time travel parodies, I highly recommend it.

Later this year, we'll see the Desert series continue, and we will finally enter Menaphos. This will mark the first of RuneScape's "expansions", and there will be three this year. Menaphos will be in June, the second in September, and the third in December.

Last year was our first step into the Eastern Lands, with the release of The Arc region, which requires Impressing the Locals to enter. This is largely geared towards higher level players, and rather than quests, stories are told in the form of "Tales", which are like miniquests. Other Tales include Tales of the God Wars, which previewed the bosses of God Wars Dungeon 2.

(Getting a little long, so this post will be my last bit of rambling)

Generally, Jagex is divided between advancing the Sixth Age while resolving some storylines that started in the Fifth Age. They still have a long way to go with the Fifth Age, but for the Sixth Age, Jagex has marked three "pillars" of the Sixth Age: The Stone of Jas, the Dragonkin, and the Elder Gods. Sliske's Endgame deals with all three of these, but in particular, it's the finale of the Stone of Jas storyline, which in turn opens up to a wider story about the "younger" gods.

This year, we'll see the first proper Elder God quest, which seems to be dealing with an Elder God named Bik. Heart of Stone is the prelude to the Elder God quests, and after that quest, I'd recommend talking with Azzanadra. He'll eventually give you a particular item, although that item currently has no use.

I'd recommend doing Brink of Extinction, although it's heavy in combat. That may eventually relate to the Elder God storyline, particular for an Elder God name Ful.

Dimension of Disaster is largely for alternate universe shenanigans. It's pretty fun, though.

Druidic Ritual did get reworked a few years back. You can do that, if only for getting a quest cape, and it's really easy anyway.
