Desperate Times bring Desperate Measures, which in turn leads to Desperate Outcomes. There's no reason this series couldn't have been a three-part series, just sayin' :P

But I also understand that Jagex has a limited capacity to devote to quests, and we just had an enormous lore release with arch. Oh, if the world were different. But alas, that is not why I am here. I am here to suggest how, in a perfect world, this trilogy could have been run a tad bit differently.

First things first: Kerapac's villain arc was way too rushed, and we, the player, were forced to be his antagonist when a lot of what he said actually made sense. So what do I mean by "DT, DM, DO"?

Desperate Times come from the realization that the Elder God threat is imminent. This quest was done beautifully, as far as I can tell. Feel free to disagree.

Desperate Measures , in brief, is our heroes' acts of desperation, in line with Kerapac, to try and mitigate what is going on, along with the new threat, that of Seren's manipulation over the council.

Desperate Outcomes , in brief, is the logical result of dealing with these two problems: i.e. some people are gonna get enslaaaaaved.

Desperate Measures , is when we, witnessing Seren's manipulation of the council, are urged by Armadyl and Azzanadra to follow Kerapac and see if there is an inkling of anything good that can be salvaged from his plan. Thok and Charos come with us, and, outside of Seren's presence, we explain the dire situation to them, and convince them to go against Seren's will, at least until we can figure out what's going on.

We work with Kerapac. He tells us a warped (unbeknownst to us) account of what happened to his civilization. He does not show us his lair. We are tasked with gathering artefacts from his civilization that he needs to commence his plan, and Thok and Charos are tasked with evacuating citizens of Gielinor to other worlds using the world gate.

Kerapac tells us the sweet deets of his plan as we help him, only growing more specific as the quest progresses. We continue to dig around the whole island for more and more artefacts, and the truth slowly reveals itself to us. Meanwhile, Thok gets tired of not smashing anything, and Charos asks us for the Measure, which signals to him that the World Gate is losing power the more people go through it. The three of us sent from the Burthorpe Council reconvene on Anachronia, and Kerapac overhears us when we say that there must be another way. He teleports away, and the three are forced to go back to Seren—her aura then becomes unmistakable as we watch Charos and Thok plead for mercy and express heart-wrenching shame as they recount their actions. Armadyl speaks up, Seren does (or does not, depending on what the developers’ plans are) apologize about what is happening.

Desperate Outcomes : The same as our current "Desperate Measures", except we're not starting with Kerapac from scratch. We still use the Measure to locate his hideout, we still excavate to find artefacts that tell us where the Nodon are hiding, we still need to go find Hannibus, fight Kerapac, fight his Black Stone Dragon, and give him the Eye of Jas. The biggest difference is that Jas has been watching our progress, and decides to enslave all of those who helped in DM—Kerapac, the Nodon, Thok, Charos and the World Guardian , except… spoiler! The World Guardian’s shadow anima soul makes them the exception among the group, and is not enslaved (which Jas is not aware of).

—————————

Anyway yup! That's what I got! In short, we help Kerapac, fill his villain arc a little bit more, and it's not a rehash of old stories where once enslaved always enslaved. Plus it gets a little juicy because Jas *thinks* the World Guardian is enslaved.

I may or may not be back here... I'm of course excited for whatever Jagex does with the future of the questline, and I certainly think there's some potential for Kerapac as a newly enslaved being. This bit about Seren had better be expanded upon later, and I gotta believe they will. But this is just a little fanfic that I hope brings some joy to your quarantine :)

HAPPY SCAPIN

I would have liked to have had the choice of siding with either Seren or Kerapac in Desperate Times and/or Desperate Measures. In the past, Jagex have said that it is difficult to incorporate choice into quests because the outcome needs to be the same for each choice. This wouldn't have been a problem here, as Jas was aware of Kerapac's plot and would have foiled it regardless of our actions. I would have liked to have been able to support Kerapac and perhaps convince him to allow for the mass evacuation of Gielinor before he destroys it, only for Jas to enslave him before any of us got the chance. I get that it would take a lot more resources to do, but IMO it would have been worth it...
To those cursed by war and pest, Come into the light of Armadyl and rest. This is the law of Armadyl.
