So lately I've been getting more and more into RS3 lore and actually started wondering about the World Guardian.

I know he/she's an adventurer that's helped many people and eventually will arise to become a legend and even protector of the world, but there seems to be no mention of anything before all of that. Did they enter the world out a passion to explore or was their some kind of dramatic story that led up to the start of their adventures? Do they have any siblings? Did they come from a place away from Gielinor itself or were they simply born there?

I'm not sure if lore like this was never made so that the interpretation is left up to the player, or if there's a story out there that I couldn't find or missed. Does anyone know?

They've intentionally left the World Guardian's background vague since they leave that as the player's roleplay/imagination.
That way, you can have the history more or less as your own.

The RW Wiki does have a few tidbits that were mentioned by the Player Character during quest scenes/dialogue, but even then, the canonicity of the comments might need to be taken with a grain of salt as the comments could have been made in an attempt to be sarcastic, threatening, or just to lie.

Perhaps the World Guardian doesn't remember every thing from his past, or there is nothing worth remembering or mentioning much like there were no words on the background of the first 30 years of Jesus until one day he was baptized by John the Baptist and suddenly remember his mission on Earth. :)

Rest assured though, the World Guardian has an interesting background regardless he and we know it at this moment, as Xau-Tau and the Illuminati or whoever put The Writings on the Walls all over the Digsites know it thousands of years ago already.

- you could have amnesia
- you could be lying about your history (either having chosen to get out of a mundane life and go on one of adventure, going from a life of being a villain to a lesser/greater villain than you were, or from villain to hero, etc etc and just don't want anyone to know what you were before)
- you could have spontaneously come into the world (like the dreams of Mah/Seren/Zaros, or the creation of the world needing a hero sort of like the anima guardians of Solak/Vorago/Telos)
- you could be one of the remaining Elder Artifacts manifesting itself in the form of the player character or even the siphoned off powers of multiple artifacts

But all of these could also be part of your roleplay and thus your very own player char baackground

You know, to become a legend one must have passed on to next dimension, so to say... Been partially forgotten or disappeared to very least requirement, told from person to another, if not alien or sorts and so on oh?

But hey not trying to crack the stick of point, and so i vote for the sentence interpretation is left up to the player. I for one consider my origin being some sort of sphrere coming from the outter space or spaceless go figure then ended up and down the frosty dungeons in the warscarred northwards and found a husk with no soul(but good soles in shoes) to fill miself into and so i walked upon the land stumbling into most bizarre and not so situation ohjoveism... But i never agreed to every, if even half of the offered ventures back then and how many more are out nowadays i don't care, hence how i see there are more than just one guardian alikes on the world that have in a way done different quests separratedly and not solo'ed em all have they? Nnnnnnnnnnnnnno~

While that story is left up to every individual player, what's interesting is that the game itself gives you some background into the player's heritage and ancestry when they hit level 16 construction. If you talk to Sir Renitee upon hitting this level, you will be assigned a crest with the kingdom from where you come from

Original message details are unavailable.
Can you see if I have a family crest?

Sir Renitee:
A family crest, mmm? So, what is your name?
Player:
Player.
Sir Renitee:
Mmm, Player, let me see...
If the player is below level 16 Construction:
Sir Renitee:
First things first, young [man/woman]! There is not much point in having a family crest if you cannot display it. You should train construction until you can build a wall decoration in your dining room.
If the player is at least level 16 Construction:
First time:
If the player's ancestors were from a kingdom:
Sir Renitee:
Well, I don't think you have any noble blood, but I see that your ancestors came from [Asgarnia/Kandarin/Misthalin], so that can be your crest.
(Continues below)
If the player's ancestors were from Varrock:
Sir Renitee:
Well, I don't think you have any noble blood, but I see that your ancestors came from Varrock, so you can use that city's crest.

Randomly generated of course, but it's interesting to write your character background around for some creative writing. The ancestors of Roland Lyons originated in Kandarin.

It's interesting that Misthalin and Varrock are counted separately though.

I will say this does make it rather limited to the three kingdoms unfortunately. Doesn't leave much for those who wish their World Guardians to be of Kharidian, Wushanko, Menaphite, Fremennik, or Karamjan descent. I suppose you could play with it a little in that regard though. Being of mixed descent or whatever is possible.

Also since the release of Beneath Cursed Tides, I've come to the conclusion that the "canon" tutorial, be it tutorial island, Ashdale, or anything in between is completely up to the player.

I will always be a tutorial island boy :P
