I believe Seer's Village was originally an Armadylean settlement. I have 3 (and a half) reasons why I believe this, and I'll get right into it, because these posts aren't long.

1. Temple of Ikov - This one is pretty obvious. Seer's Village is the closest settlement to the Temple of Ikov, right next to McGrubor's wood, which hides the entrance straight to the Guardians of Armadyl's base. Of course, this on its own doesn't prove anything, but fortunately I have more.

2. The Courthouse - There is only one courthouse in all of Runescape. Only one house of justice. I find the fact that it is in Seer's village to be quite interesting and telling. I believe it was originally an Armadylean institution- as Armadyl is the god of justice- that saw use for everyone, and eventually became agnostic, possibly Guthixian.

3. The Elemental Workshop - If you examine the archaeological material, Aetherium alloy, the examine text is as follows: "An alloy of various elementally charged metals, plus a little something extra." Do the same with Stormguard steel, and you get "Steel imbued with lightning and air." Now that reminds you of another kind of elemental metal, doesn't it? I doubt it's a coincidence that a secret research laboratory hidden under Seer's Village was researching means of imbuing metal with runic power. And if it can be done with mind, body, chaos, and cosmic runes, why not air? And why not make an alloy of it? I believe the researchers in the EW were working for Howl- the portal to the citadel is just a short walk away, after all!

3b. To add to this theory a little, is the inventor's desk on the ground floor of the EW. In light of the ancient blueprints and gizmos discovered through archaeology, I don't think it's much of a stretch to speculate that the Armadyleans were the original inventors of the Invention skill. And a relic of that can be found in the Workshop. It isn't proof, but it does fit the pattern of evidence.

What do you think?

Good stuff.

I’ve proposed in the past that perhaps there was a school of Fremennik/Guthixian mystics/seers in what is today the Fremennik slayer dungeon, that the school likely collapsed around the time of the runecrafting crusade (so that their old robes are all that is left of the school in Fremennik lands), and that the survivors fled south and their descendants are the seers of Seers Village today. This shouldn’t contradict your proposal, but rather explain another layer of the town.

That actually explains exactly why it became a Guthixian village rather than Armadylean. After the disappearance of the gods, Armadyleanism began being incorporated into other local religions, and with the arrival of the Fremennik Guthixian/godless seers, that simply took over, until only the Guardians were left of the old Armadylean way of life.

I once wrote out even more backstory for the region:

At the start of the 5th age, northeastern Kandarin was ruled by a few noble families: the Cathers, the Sothers, the Sinclairs, and the McGrubors. In time, the castle Camelot was taken from the Sinclairs and given to King Arthur and his knights, and the village of Sotherby was taken from the Sothers and given to the Seers (and therefore renamed Seers Village). Today, the head of the Sother family is William Thormac Sotherby, IV - an odd figure who reflects the eclectic history of the region.

Sorcery - i.e. attentive participation in the work of spirits - was the primary mode of human magic only in Gielinor’s 1st age. Yet a renaissance of sorcery in the early 4th age accompanied the rise of druidism - itself a pacifistic and anti-necromantic form of sorcery. Thormac has inherited this 4th age tradition of sorcery.

The tradition that he has preserved of constructing mystic staves has even older roots - in the mystical schools of the 2nd and 3rd ages. The last remnants of these all but disappeared in the early 5th age: The Fremennik school collapsed in the runecrafting crusades; and the Zamorakian school, last headquartered in the slayer tower of Morytania and later replaced by the ZMI, fell after the burning of the Wizards Tower. Although its practice of mysticism has been long eclipsed since the discovery of modern runic magic, the Wizards Guild still sells its own old mystic robes, to remind the younger Wizards Tower of its prestigious history.

Little of Armadylean religion persists above the ground, but perhaps the Sothers have preserved the story of Ikov’s Temple. The Temple marks the site of two important events: first, the arrival in Armadyl and Ikov at the border of ancient kingdom whose capital lay near modern-day Ardougne; and second, the defeat by Ikov of a spirit who took the form of dragon (before dragons were even created) - the last of several spirits sent by Zaros to oppress the people of Gielinor. This marked the failure of Zaros’s first attempt to conquer Gielinor - through spirits, from the shadows - and therefore prompted him to approach Hostilius of Infernus so that he could invade Gielinor with legions of demons in the light. For this service, Ikov was remembered as a hero of men.

Wait, is there no established backstory for Seers Village? I'd assume it would have something to do with the Elemental Workshop. It says on the Wiki page that it was essentially settled by a group of people know as "seers" (just an interesting side note: this is an actual thing IRL). Apparently they follow Guthix, but have an altar to Saradomin.
