If you've been anywhere in the world where the temperature gets cold enough to freeze over a lake or a pond, you've probably heard of ice fishing.

Imagine that in the wonderful game of Old School Runescape!

Ice fishing would be an additional method to a skill, or two, that adds new dynamics to playing and training in one of the more classic skills in the game.

As for location, there are many spots cold enough to entertain the idea, such as Weiss, the Fremennik Isles or northern Kourend.

Your character would approach the frozen water, with hammer and chisel, create a hole in the ice (or up to 5), set a trap, and wait for the fish to come. Something in-game already could be used as bait, like minnows. Similar to hunting for chinchompa, you wait for the trap to spring, and collect your harvest.

Alternatively, a more social and laid back suggestion would be a larger common fishing area, where you sit with an ice fishing jig rod and catch fish at a slower pace.

Ideas for new fish (which would also be cook-able) would be something like polluck at level 60, and arctic charr, at level 80. XP rates would go from 50-60k per hour to 70-80k per hour, respectfully. And for the slower jig rod fishing, xp rates of 45-50k could be achieved, catching smelts and sculpin.

There could even be a new skilling pet, which would be similar to the Bubbles pet in Runescape 3.

The ice trap fishing, which has hunter like aspects, could also offer passive hunter xp, possibly at 20-40k xp per hour.

This is just an idea, which I think would be an amazing addition to the game. I am open to feedback and suggestions and hope others can share their ideas on this as well!

For those curious, the ice traps I'm referring to are often called "tip-ups", in case you wanted to research a visual representation.

The trap will be set, flag laying horizontally, and when disturbed, the flag will spring upright at a 90 degree angle to signify that an object has triggered the trap.
