Looking at the Ancient Prayer book development blogs for Desert Treasure 2, I think the developers were going in the wrong direction and were right to remove it from the release.
Development Mistake
:
The Ancient Prayer book was basically the standard prayer book, but better. - This is bad design.
What it should have been:
The Ancient Prayer book should have been a complete reinvention of the prayer system, in a new book.
Argument
:
I think we can all agree that just making a better standard prayer book is not what anyone wants, and doesnt help the longevity of the game. The Ancient prayer book, should have been to the standard prayer book, what the lunar spell book is to the standard spell book. That is it should have been something completely different with a different focus.
Here are just some ideas of how it could be different:
Ancient Prayer Book has:
1. No overhead protection prayers
2. No stat boosting prayers.
These are core concepts in the standard spell book. An Ancient prayer book should not have them, and instead invent new ways to be equivalent.
I am no developer but here are some ideas of combat prayers:
1. A prayer that reduces the special energy cost of special attacks.
2. A prayer that has a similar effect to vengeance, reapplied periodically.
3. A prayer, that gives the user a chance to save their runes when casting a spell/using arrows.
4. A prayer that lets the player use their highest equipment bonus on their next attack (for example use your slash bonus to cast a spell in armor).
5. A prayer that lets the player attack 1 tick faster (minimum 4 ticks).
6. Etc.
As you can see it is possible to create a competitive prayer book that is also completely original. I am not saying these prayers should be created, just that it is possible to make something original, that challenges players current concept of prayers. Thats what we want from an Ancient Prayer Book after all.
