The name old school does not mean it was meant to be static in 2007. A year before the release of osrs, I told the head of jagex, a man named Gerhard (I called him gearhead), that unless he found a way to bring back the old ways, i.e. no sof (eoc was not out yet), the game would die. Over the year that followed, jagex lost 2.5 MILLION active member accounts, some due to eoc that came out 6 months after my prediction.
Old school runescape was created because gearhead was certain that if people saw the difference between what the game was like in 2007 and 2012, we would all rush back to rs3 to validate his genius.
A lot of people thought that osrs was brought back because all the pkers were upset with eoc. They thought that everyone would be out in the wild pking the first days of the game. When we did not, they made up excuses such as "people need to build up their stocks of pots, food and armor knowing they will lose a lot. When we still did not go out after 3 months, they started calling us "carebears" and said we were just scared little children too afraid to risk out lives in the wild.
After 6 months of most people being skillers and not pkers, and with few people going back to rs3, gearhead was fired for not having a clue what his main player base wanted.
While there has always been a small group that wanted a static 2007 version of the game, they were always in the minority. There was never enough of them for a stand alone game, and the entire purpose of the game was to bring back players to rs3, so the jmods were never interested in bring out a static version.
The grand exchange actually came out in late 2007.
We will likely get a 15 year cape when osrs is 15 years old. You can not have an account older than 2013.
