So this isn't confirmed, but there is a protect item icon in the Runescape cache files for the new prayers. they might have left it out to see how players react to not having protect item or they might have not added it because they are just going to add the original protect item and wanted to showcase just the new prayers. since you can just spawn items in the demo world.

either way, they have thought about protect item for the new prayers.

The primary theme of the Ruinous Powers seems to be "Power at all costs". One of those costs appears to be that, if you want to pk with the highest DPS prayers in the game, you'd better be prepared to lose everything you take.

They originally had an idea for a prayer that protected 2 items, but actively smited you for 25% of the damage you take. But it never made it into the poll so I imagine they scrapped it entirely. Now with added

I like the theme of having to risk it all for prayers that increase DPS like that. Hopefully Jagex dissects the feedback from the beta with precisely that in mind.
