the colossal blade is available in the giants foundry for a hefty 5000 points, you get it and it goes in the bank forever.
my suggestion is: once you've unlocked the blade, talking to kovac or using the blade on kovac with give you the option to go into an instanced foundry to customise the blade using the moulds you have available and going through the motions of the minigame to reforge it. it doesn't have to give xp just some more customisation to the foundry to make it a bit more appealing.
