Painting.

1. It's a genuine real-life skill that many of the OSRS community can relate to. Drawing and Painting is a big part of this community.

2. It's new: not Summoning, Sailing, Music, Artisan or any of the existing extra RS3 skills. Something special for the osrs game.

3. It would make sense being available f2p in limited form like other f2p skills - which could help bring new players into the game

4. Multiple quests already have elements of drawing or painting in which this could be incorporated

5. It's very easy to integrate Magic into the Painting skill - as it's common in books/films/games for paintings or portraits to have magical properties. Jagex can really use their imagination to make the skill very interesting.

6. It's tradition for OSRS content to have references to old school books/films/games. It's the perfect opportunity to have a pun-filled quest inspired by Mary Poppins - where a 'Dick Van Dyke' inspired character teaches us how to draw with Crayons on the floor and give it magical properties. Maybe even to teleport us to a magical realm for the quest. Many other books or films could be considered.

7. You can have Painting contracts. Paint X from Y location in a X frame - and off you go.

8. Easy to integrate into the crafting or construction skills - to create the supplies such as canvases, picture frames, painting easels or brushes.

9. Clan Tag Territories. Imagine the pride and elevated importance of clans if we could 'tag' our clan logos to 'occupy' regions around Gielinor - so all gamers on that world know who runs this world. Literally. This idea needs lots of thinking to get right but has a lot of potential to elevate clans to a new level and help clans advertise on their home worlds.

10. Players could draw magical portraits of certain NPCs they've met and put them in the POH to interact with quicker

11. Drawing on the ground could be a new type of teleport method. We even have one example already in game - the default teleport to spawn spell.

12. Portraits that have magical uses could be consumed so that there is a need to create many of them - ideal for training the skill and in-keeping with existing osrs skills.

13. We could have genuine tile markers - not an add-in but a genuinely drawn tile that consumes resources - for clans or group ironman accounts. Tiles that are marked with important notes that can only be seen by members of that group. Could have a lot of cool uses rather than only having markers for yourself.

14. Players could also paint Slayer bosses and receive a useful ability. Such as displaying the KC in the POH or having consumable portrait teleports or viewing the location to see who is there.

15. The process of making paint would be very interesting and open a lot of content for the game - especially because it will sometimes be magical paint.

16. Basic paint can be made with materials already in game - such as flour - to increase integration into the existing game, but also add new materials to make the skill more exciting. We already have Charcoal and Papyrus in game - used in the Legends quest to draw a map.

17. We already have some NPCs that are integrated with the idea of painting - such as art critique Jacques and Da Vinci. There are probably many more examples.

18. Maps. It would be possible for Jagex to think of a way to incorporate map drawing into the game. Perhaps we can receive one-time xp for drawing a new area we’ve not visited before and this can slowly complete our own version of the world map? Not sure how this would work or what benefit it would bring but the potential is there if Jagex puts thought into it.

19. Flags or crests could be created and displayed to further expand the importance of Clans within the OSRS world.

20. Body painting art like Mehndi from India could be a new ‘slot’ in the Worn Equipment tab between shield and ring or between weapon and hand. Maybe even both. This would fit nicely in osrs and will be relatable for many of the osrs community. Jagex could think of many cool abilities for this.

21. Magical floor tile drawings could give combat benefits to all your friends who walk over them within a certain time period. This adds a whole new exciting element to pvm or raids with friends. This skill would contribute to combat not just skilling.

22. One of the drawing teleport capabilities could be to teleport to an arty realm that takes you back to where you were - nowhere else. Like in Mary Poppins. It would have to be a long teleport to avoid misuse, but this would enable players to meet-up to celebrate 99’s or lend equipment without stopping what they were doing or having to travel for ages. It will allow the community to be more social and interact more.

23. It isn’t too outlandish, it isn’t too crazy. It’s just a skill. Boring perhaps to consider at first glance - as would be firemaking, woodcutting, fletching, crafting, etc - but fun in reality when implemented into the game. It just fits right in place - it’s not a mini-game like Dungeoneering - it's detailed content that is relevant everywhere.

24. Last but not least. After all these years, after all the jokes, memes and memories - osrs players can finally fulfil their childhood dreams of trimming armour. Of course we’d want the existing trimmed armour to remain as special loot from clues - but we could have new trim colours with a slightly different design for player-trimmed armour.

Thank you,

Rob.

Perhaps the 'quality' of the painting is somewhat RNG - influencing it's effects. Higher levels are more likely to produce a higher quality paintings more often.

This could make it more interesting and also be realistic.
