In all seriousness, the pitch for Taming was incredibly unique and I don't think any other game offers something similar.
It could have been a feature entirely unique to OSRS and I think that alone deserves a second chance
Heck, it doesn't even have to be a new skill. It would work just as well as Hunter or Farming.
In fact, the Quetzal in the upcoming Hunter expansion is a great step towards this but we should go further.
For example, it was proposed that you would need to pay a cost to "train" your salamander for PVP. I think isntead of paying a cost, you could ACTUALLY train the little guy as an activity to do at the Hunter guild which would get you Hunter exp and maybe even allow you to customize the salamander itself. Maybe you could have it specialize in a combat style which would lower its atack power in one style but raise it in another.
And that's just one of the many possibilites this could potentially bring to the game.
