so for like a sail pets? I was thinking like shark, sea turtle, monkey, skeleton pirate, parrot, sail fish, jelly fish, or rock crab. for boss sail pets? I was thinking giant squid, or any big sea monster. for weapons? I was hoping a hand cannon to carry around like in rs3 or I was thinking a pistol. and we use steel bars to make a pistol and the bullets. the bullets could be strong as dragon. dual wield swords would be nice. like in rs3

Lol.. Sailing.. yay

Seriously, OSRS needs to stop adding content that is just copied from RS3. In fact, we need to purge all existing content that is a copy of RS3. Get rid of:

All the skills: Seriously, they're just RS3 clones and we hate that game, right?

The entire mainland: Misthalin, Asgarnia, Karamja, Kandarin, the Desert, Morytania, Tirrannwn. Scrap it all, we don't need that RS3 trash here.

All the spellbooks/prayers except Arceuss: I mean really, we came here to get away from the RS3 plight that is prayers, ancients, lunars, and high alchemy.

The concept of combat and skilling: I am seriously amazed OSRS claims to not be RS3 when they clearly both have combat and skilling. It's like trying to claim England isn't the Moon, when they both clearly have rocks. Preposterous.

The player character: There has never been a more blatant rip-off in videogame history than when OSRS launched and we found out that the game, in fact, had a player character. I, for one, will not stand for my OSRS being sullied by impure contaminations from RS3.

Jagex the company: How can we truly be secure in knowing that OSRS will never become RS3 if the same company that made RS3 is running it? Honestly, I think I speak for everyone when I say that it's far safer that OSRS be sold to a more legitimate, trustworthy company like Activision, EA or Tencent.

The absolute purest form that OSRS could aspire to, is simply a classic login menu that, when credentials are entered, simply cuts to a black screen that plays Flute Salad on loop until you log out. We must also ensure it's a browser game, because RS3 uses launchers.

Now that I've finished thoroughly convincing you all of the steps that must be taken to save OSRS, I will say that I personally hope the Sailing Pet is a follower pet version of the RS classic Toy Warship.

I could see a niche where pistols could be added. Primitive flintlock types which hit hard, but are slow and unreliable at range. I picture a slow, hard hitting, but very accurate archetype of weapon that has a very short attack range. Though I feel adding an entirely new weapon archetype might go beyond the scope of a single new skill which doesn't focus solely on said archetype.

Some example stats for a pistol at, say, level 70:

1-handed
Ranged Attack: 155
Ranged Strength (of ammo): 150
Attack Speed: 8
Attack Range: 4
Attack Styles:
>Accurate (+3 Invisible Ranged Levels)
> Rapid (-1 Attack Speed, -3 Invisible Ranged Levels)
> Long-Range ( +2 Attack Range, -3 Invisible Ranged Levels)

This concept creates a very accurate, very hard hitting, very slow, close range weapon. The attack styles allow you to increase the range or speed slightly but come at the cost of a 6 level swing in Ranged bonus from Accurate to either Rapid or Long-Range. This emphasizes that this weapon is not intended to be used quickly or at a distance. I believe this balancing of the styles could create the first ever situation in which the Accurate attack style is superior to Rapid for this particular weapon archetype.

But again I must reiterate: I do not see this being a thing with Sailing.

yea I was thinking pistols can be fast and hand cannons be slow but do more damage. and pistols would need to reload like every 3 seconds or something. and mabe hand cannons 5 seconds and u need to lit it all the time. I think that would balance it and only steel bars can make them DeBOMBs11

"single new skill which doesn't focus solely on said archetype." well? as long as they can make them related like a new quest or something it could work out. but anyways I dont think we get new skills for a while after we get sailing DeBOMBs11

The only reason I steer more towards a slow, hard hitting weapon is because we already have so many fast, moderate hitting 1-handed ranged weapons. We can't rightly add a fast, hard hitting weapon, so all that remains is a slow, hard hitting 1-handed weapon. If you try to make it a fast weapon, it'll just either be worse than the existing archetypes, thus making it useless, or it will be better than them, thus making the weapons we have now useless. Because there are no 1-handed, slow, hard hitting ranged archetypes, you can throw it into that category without massively impacting the existing meta in any negative way.

Let's think about this. You say pistols could reload every 3 seconds, and we're talking about primitive flintlocks, so we're reloading every shot. So we're attacking every 3 seconds. That's a 5 tick weapon; that's just a crossbow on rapid. That's too close to an already dominant weapon class for me to see any meaningful differentiation. Pistols will either be strictly better, just killing off the crossbow archetype, or they will be strictly worse, thus launching as dead content.
