There's a lot that can go into a fancy post, and there's also a lot that can go into the quality of the people that make up a community that you host.
I've spent the past 2.5+ years inviting people to my clan, Clan Requiem, with the focus set on creating a supportive community that has its purpose set in directing our attention toward creating the shared experience.
It was through my hardship, the pain I'd believe many of us face in trying to connect with the osrs community, that I had to experience the toxicity in the relationships that set me back to what our friends here new to the game or old to the game need. A reminder that this is an MMO, and it's meant to be played with people.
There were enough "use the wiki" experiences and people kicking and muting for no acceptable reason, including people I knew making mistakes and not being an absolute pro at a certain task that would get them cut, and that's just not the way we treat people...
So there has to be a sense of community, and there has to be a sense of acceptance, and there has to be encouragement and support in striving toward becoming better - not this perfectionism that most clans are going for from the start.
It's okay to play a long-term game, and at 399 members out of a 500 capacity several years later, having gone through multiple splits and still carrying strong, we'll continue being well.
I am an active player, have recruited 95% of the members myself (more than these 400 over time you see), and I enjoy bringing people together to engage harmoniously.
Yeah, if we can improve our quality of life when playing the game, I'd like that, wouldn't you?
Yet, we're not perfect. We need help. We need leaders, people willing to give back, host events, learner raids, and some high level activities. I personally want more pkers, and am looking forward to grouping up for the next DMM. Noobs are welcome.
