After playing a 2100 total Hardcore and Dying to a Dc years ago I started a UIM, I'm 2000+ Total and grinded out a Dragon Hunter lance and lots of high end gear, I just did 95 Rune crafting. I loved UIM and it made the game fun and challenging, I never once complained of a grind. Today I logged in after a few weeks of playing a normie account and didn't know what to do on my UIM so I figured I haven't gone to CG in a while lets just get a few KC while I'm thinking of a grind to do. MOST OF MY GEAR WAS IN DEATH STORAGE which as a UIM is something you do and you know its risking it if you die while its in there, the problem is I haven't done CG in a long time so I completely forgot it wasn't a safe death. Normally you do CG with a loot bag full of items and when you die you don't lose them so im so used to just doing CG with no gear on I tricked myself into thinking it was safe. Now I lost like 450m in pots/herbs/items/gear.
I'm definitely not restarting the grind for all that gear. If I did refarm it I would still have a chance at losing it the same way, I often play other games for months and come back to OSRS and even within OSRS its common to leave a thing like CG for a few months and come back later, so I forgot it wasn't safe and my account is over.
The thing that really bothers me is that there was no warning when I tried to go into CG its just the warning when you log in that you have death storage items. If I had a pop up window like the wilderness I would of gone and loot bagged my items. Also this was a PVE death and my items are gone now, UIM work the hardest for our items yet they can be deleted and taken from us on a PVE death (that I forgot counted as a death) while no normie can lose anything on a pve death even tho they can buy things freely.
Jagex won't give my items back but they will give me the chance to accidently delete them with no warning. Years of grinding all gone because something slipped my mind. Never play a mode with that chance.
