Hello,

I would love for a J-Mod to see this and reply.

Context:
The AutoHotkey (AHK) program can be used to re-bind any input to any other input -- to essentially remap your keys and mouse buttons. Many players, such as myself, use AHK for very simple. For example, I always run an AHK script, every single time I play RuneScape, that rebinds 2 and 4 to left mouse button and right mouse button, respectively. This is not against the rules to my knowledge. I would simply not be able to play the game if this was not allowed, because clicking mouse buttons with my dominant hand for any length of time causes me serious wrist and hand pain. With this simple AHK script, I am able to actually play the game that I love.

Question:
Are player allowed to use scripts which bind the scroll wheel to a mouse button? This would allow players to perform extremely click intensive tasks which don't require any mouse movement, like purchasing items from a shop, to be much less strenuous on their hands.

If the answer is "no, that is against the rules " then I do think it is worth reconsidering the current rules, because the purpose of utilizing such a script would not be to maliciously gain an advantage over other players, or to 'automate' anything in any meaningful sense, but simply to avoid repetitive stress injuries. Repetitive clicking is terrible for the health of our hands. I love RuneScape, and have a maxed character in OldSchool as well as a very high level ironman in Rs3. I will continue to play the game in any case, but I think this is a discussion worth having.

There are other solutions to the shopscape problem than updating the rules, of course, and I would support things like "Buy X" being implemented, etc., but in any case I do think it should be legal to bind mouse buttons to scroll wheel. Botters will not get any benefit from this rule change, as they are already breaking the rules anyway. It will only help players avoid RSIs. There is no downside.
