I have cut logs until level 99 Woodcut for an attempt at a beaver pet (my high school mascot is a beaver). I know dry streaks happen. However, to not get a pet and reach 99 is quite disheartening. Jagex should think of creating a way for players to receive a skilling pet easier when they reach 99. It is understandable to not receive pets at low levels. Yet, Jagex could do better for the esteem of the players by making drop rates for skilling pets much higher when a player reaches 99 in a skill. Not receiving a skilling pet after hitting a 99 almost makes a player want to quit playing. The only thing that keeps players invested is the addiction side of receiving a pet. If Jagex is manipulating that desire by making drop rates too rare, it would be very unsavory to realize for any player.

Pets are stupid 100% pointless garbage and bank clutter for those who have NO life. Stop going for them, do something real, you will be happier in life.

I agree with not focusing on the pets.

But if you really want to collect its fine of course. Its really based on rng some are lucky and some have to work extremelty hard on it.

But some that have sick RNG with a skillpet are very bad luck at bosspets it really is something not to put ur mind too much into. Aslong u keep enjoying the game

not getting pet before 99 is not a dry streak.

using redwoods as an example

chance of beaver on redwood is 1/72,321

so cutting 72,321 redwoods is 27,481,980 xp over double 99.

even then

doing 72,321 actions when there is a chance of 1 thing happening at a chance of 1/72321
there is only a 63.21% chance of getting the drop. during those 72321 actions.

using teaks a very common way people train to 99 wc. (and is more realistic due to it being very low req)

there is a 264,336 chance to get the pet per log.

cutting 264,336 teak logs thats 22,468,560 xp again way over 99.

getting pet before 99 is considered very lucky.

so if jagex wanted pets to be received before 99. they wouldnt have made the chance of getting it this difficult.

they also have added a threshold at 200m xp. so clearly they could have done that at 99. but chose not too.

Everything you just described is reason enough to suggest Jagex is profiting off of addiction.

That needs to stop, 99 woodcutting takes the average noob a buttload of time. All skills take a buttload of time. Pets are a way for Jagex to profit off of addiction and it is quite wrong. Period.

EDIT:

If game developers really cared about expanding player base, they would realize how capping the exp needed for a pet would help expand the base. Most players quit because they don't want to deal with a game that has so much input for very little reward. The day you folks figure that out... you may help the base grow.

if it was made super easy they wouldnt be special.

this game has been going for over 20 years (runescape)

people arent quitting because they dont get pets.

Remain quite and complicit all you want. It's a bunch of bull crap.

If game developers kill this game because they cannot figure out simple reasons why people come and go from the game... then why are they even continuing to develop it??

I will also point out that a majority (probably all of them) of my friends who play games like Minecraft, SMITE, Valorant, RUST and many more... profess how they will not play a game that is a time sink for very little rewards. People talk about this game regularly in my friend group and everyone circles back to how they would play but do not wish to start a game with such a high time input for what they view as little reward. Jagex should care about these opinions. If they care about their player base and its expansion overtime.
