I don't like the direction that osrs is heading towards. Plenty of players talking about having second thoughts on the new skill or the new prayers. This update stands to change osrs in such a way that nobody can predict the outcome at all. Many players are doubling back on their initial vote. When the new skill is out, I think jagex needs to take a serious look at adding a few pure 2007 servers. Once the hype dies after like 2 weeks some players might just realize that it was all just dopamine from leveling 1 to like 40 in a day. The flaws of the new skill will show up later just like the skills we have now.

This is obviously going to fall on the devs deaf ears, but I'd still play vanilla osrs servers with no updates over osrs today. No GE, no zulrah, no raids, no zeah. No voting or adding content. Just bug fixes.

Hopefully they at least consider the idea as it requires next to no work compared to rs3 or osrs. They ran runescape classic until 2018 with like 10 players, so anything is possible. I know many players may not like the idea, but you can stick to osrs.

Agreed, but only if I also get oldschool classic servers, as I don't want to play oldschool oldschool runescape with all of its modern, op gear and methods. Give me oldschool oldschool oldschool runescape, and maybe give it a small dev team to work on minor content updates/additions over the years so it doesn't get stale. But if they do that, I would also want the option of playing oldschool oldschool olschool runescape without any of the newer content; just classic vanilla. So I'm also going to need an oldschool oldschool oldschool oldschool version as well. Or, you know, I could just choose not to engage with the new content I don't like; but then I wouldn't be able to complain about why this game is bad.

Get on this Jagex.

Before I say anything I do want to be clear that I do support the idea of having a vanilla version of the game frozen in time for those that want it. :)

In saying that there really aren't many people that truly feel that way. A lot of what's been discussed here has already been tested irl. i.e in 2013 old school servers were released as they were in August 2007 and the game started losing players very quickly. God wars was the first major update that changed that trend long term and this has been confirmed by ex J mods like Mat K in numerous interviews.

As for concerns about the new skill, i'd highly recommend you ensure you give your feedback for your concerns since they are genuine. But its important to not forget to rationalise - most players do want this and the process being followed is drawn out on purpose to ensure that the problems you describe don't happen.

Bro they don't wanna do it for the monetary reasons. OSRS is MTX heavy in terms of bonds, and not having bonds prevents a lot of people who wouldnt otherwise pay the regular subscription from playing at all. Its a big business model issue.

The same thing happened in 2012 when they did not want to add OSRS at all, they feared players would switch from MTX heavy (RS3) to MTX light version of the game, hitting the sales/revenues badly. But they had to do it because private servers started taking over, and so a reaction was necessary. It was surely not because jagex wanted players to have fun, absolutely not

Reason why you wont have OS OSRS is precisely because of that. How much GP is BiS nowadays? Bond wise? $10,000? (yes, thats 10 grand) PER account.

Why do you think you need a separate membership for your iron account? another $12 per month or something? you could just add a 'character selection' where you could select your normie/im/uim/league whatever, but thats sales hit man, they'd rather force you to spend another $12 per month per character

Too greedy of a company bro, we can pray someone will someday invent a fair and sustainable business model that does not erode the value of the product over the years.

We know Jagex is diversifying, and we should know why from the financials of OSRS. They are making new Runescape games as well as publishing other developers'. They know OSRS is not sailing smoothing. There is no direction and Jagex is preparing what they will do when one day the OSRS boat hits the rocks.

I don't have a doubt there will be something the faltering OSRS community may be interested, or at least take a look at. I am doubtful if it will be Oldschool OSRS though. The problem with OSRS can't move forward is partly because of its antiquated technologies. Whenever they want to add something new, bad things happen, either like Mobile or Runelike break. I really don't have high hope on seeing the old technologies stacks in OSRS Jagex vowed to remove from their last official financial report to appear on even older version of the game.
