Currently, most skills have multiple ways to train them, depending on your preference. Afk focused, profit focused, speed focused, etc. most skills also give you the ability to choose exactly how you want to train them. Enter slayer, the skill where your only option is to kill random monsters based on their task weighting. Sure, you can set up optimal block lists, plan quests, boost slayer points and several other things to ease the randomness of slayer tasks, but it never completely allows you to train as you want.

Spelunking is an alternative method for training slayer that I think fits neatly into the "old school" feel of osrs. Its focus would be on higher experience rates with much lower potential profits. Major cities would have their own cave systems set with a slayer level requirement, similar to rooftop agility courses.

Spelunking would have two potential options, defending the base camp or exploring for the source of the caves power:

Defending the base camp would utilize non-combat skills to set up and defend the base camp from waves of slayer monsters. Skills like fletching, crafting, runecrafting, herblore, smithing, construction, etc could play a role in building and supplying defense of the base camp. This would allow combat experience locked accounts to gain slayer experience.

Exploring for the source of a caves power would utilize combat skills to delve deeper into the cave searching for a crystal that is empowering the caves inhabitants, avoiding traps and killing the slayer monsters along the way. Be careful though, exploring in the wrong direction could prove dangerous at best, and fatal at worst.

Upon surviving the required amount of waves or exploring the depths of the cave a slayer "boss" type monster would be encountered. Kill this and reap the rewards of a successful spelunking expedition. For base defenders this would involve having a "slayer health" bar rather than using hp. When your slayer level reaches zero you die

* Potentially an option to go in with two teams, one exploring and sending resources back to the base camp to build various shrines/altars/skilling related objects to negate negative effects in the cave or enable positive effects. The base camp would still be defending against waves, if either party fails then the expedition is failed.

Potential rewards spelunking boss rewards -

* slayer oil: used in slayer basins inside of various slayer headquarters

* Weapon modifications: potential attachments to currently un-used weapons that degrayde over time, making them more useful when modified (increase attack bonus, str bonus, add a special, etc). Think any metallic weapon that isn't a scimitar, ranged weapon that isn't a short bow.

* Slayer packages: various supply rewards, including potentially slayer points?

* Slayer blessing: used at slayer shrines inside headquarters

* Spelunking specific rewards to increase efficiency of spelunking

As part of spelunking slayer headquarters would be added to the game. Here various slayer related content would included. (Think Van Helsing-Esque).

Slayer basins - basins where the blood of slayer monsters can be mixed with slayer oils received during spelunking to create various potential resources:
* slayer potions: boosting damage to specific slayer types of monsters or reducing damage taken by certain slayer monsters.
* Weapon oils: dip your weapons in a filled basin to grant your weapon temporary benefits. Potential benefits could be accuracy bonuses or damage bonuses (maybe slayer helm imbue for a weapon to open up the helmet slot), damage reduction, expeditious bracelet properties, slaughter bracelet properties, status effects
Slayer shrines- the goal behind slayer shrines is to add benefits you can consume during normal slayer training. Slayer shrines may be dedicated to specific slayer monsters or be a general slayer shrine, depending on what benefit you want.

Offering a slayer blessing at these shrines could have various effects:
* Increase that specific monsters task weighting for that monster until you receive a slayer task (or for your next x number of tasks), scaling up based on the number of blessings you consume, with cost per each additional weighting increase costing significantly more blessings, up to a cap
* Decrease the weighting of a specific task for the next x amount of tasks
* Increase the points received from this type of task for x number of tasks (or increase points received from all tasks for next x number of tasks)
* Decrease the cost of skipping this specific monsters tasks for x number of skips. (Or decrease the cost of skipping any tasks for the next x number of tasks)

Each city's spelunking cave system would be thematic to its area. Potential caves and their themes.
* lumby-swamp theme: rats, frogs, giant bugs, wall creatures etc
* Al Khalid-desert theme: scorpions, bugs, carrion crawlers
* Mory-vampire theme: leaches, vampyres, werewolves
* Varrock-woodland theme: cave bears, cave wolves, etc
* Mount karuluem- mountain themed: wyrms drakes hydra etc
* Burthorpe-mountain themed: various trolls, ice wolves, etc
* Fally-mountain themed: ice wolves, ice fiends, deep gnomes, dark dwarves
* Greater Kourend-demonic themed: imps, demons of all types, wizards
* Tree gnome village-fairy themed: fairy abominations, giant tortoise things, demonic gorillas
* Fremmy-Nordic themed: basilisk, cockatrice, isle of stone related
* Priff-elven themed: dark beasts, corrupt gauntlet creatures, etc
* Fossil island or lithkrin-dragon themed: dragons, dragon kin, wyverns, dragon mages
* West ardy-plague themed:zombies, skeletons, shades, animated corpses etc.
While I think it would be cool for thematic caves I think it would be important to have each of the caves have standard slayer monsters as part of them, trying to fit them in where they would match best thematically.
