Main idea I want to emphasize here is: reverse grip.

Dragon Daggers used to be reverse-grip. No clue why they changed it. It was the coolest thing about Dragon Daggers.

Holding other weapons in reverse grip is potentially really awesome.

Some restrictions would obviously be important...holding a Nox Scythe in reverse grip would be somewhat overkill. Most 2h weapons probably aren't suitable, so sadly the few that would look nice are probably better left out for consistency. Just make the reverse grip for single-hand weapons.

As for the walk itself I admit I don't have any ideas in particular. One thought is for the idle animation, have the character be in something approximating a combat stance, but every now and then relax a little and twirl the weapon or toss and catch it. Walking could be something like the Assassin or Spirit Hunter walks, both are pretty nice designs. Even Sandstorm Walk could be possible inspiration. Parkour would be quite hard to integrate into a walk animation, I would think, but potentially another source of inspiration.
